    800 CE- Scandinavian Vikings
    The Scandinavian Vikings settled near the Volga and Dnieper River and with them, they brought the idea of Kingsmen.

    1200 CE- The Mongols Invade

    1200 CE- The Mongols Invade
    The Mongols invaded Kiev and ruled this land for more than 200 years. They required tributes and the Mongols were to choose the king.

    1470 CE- Ivan "The Great" III

    1470 CE- Ivan "The Great" III
    Ivan "The Great" was known for his courageous act of attacking the Mongols and taking over their rule. He was chosen to be king and then went against his own people in order to end their power.

    1530 CE- Ivan "The Terrible" IV

    1530 CE- Ivan "The Terrible" IV
    Ivan "The Terrible" IV was the grandson of Ivan "The Great" III. Ivan IV had the trauma of his parents dying as a young child. He was neglected causing him to develop mental issues. This cause him to find joy in killing small animals, then he finally got married and then his wife dies causing more trauma. Ivan IV ended up invading a whole town of his own people and he led himself.

    The peasants became Serfs doing whatever they were told to do or grow.
  • Late 1600's- Peter "The Great" I

    Late 1600's- Peter "The Great" I
    Peter "The Great" became a leader and accomplished many things for Russia. He enlarged territory, built a stronger military, developed new trade partners with Europe and built a new capitol. He named his capitol "St. Petersburg".

    Czar Alexander was the emperor of Russia from 1855-1881 he died due to assassination. He believed in Russification, this was the belief that everybody will speak russian and be atheist. This allowed him to have power because nobody had their religion and beliefs to get in the way.
  • 1917- Bolsheviks seized control

    1917- Bolsheviks seized control
    The Bolsheviks were a communist group led by Vladimir Lenin. They seized the power over Russia from Nicholas II.
  • Joseph Stalin

    Joseph Stalin
    Joseph Stalin lead Russia from 1922-1952. He killed 20-25 million Jews and other who disagreed with his policies. He defeated Hitler and demanded half of Europe in/after WWII.
  • Presidents

    Presidents
    Mikhail Gorbachev became ruler in 1985 until about 1991. He brought Perestroika and Glasnost. Communism was then defeated in 1991 with the help of the U.S. Boris Yeltsin became Russia's first president and Russia transformed from Command to Market economy. Then in 1999 Vladimir Putin became president (he wasnt supposed to)
