Russian History: 20th Century Russia

  • Bolshevik Revolution

    Started the Soviet Union and basically the Soviet's didn't agree with a democratic way of election. They wanted power only to themselvss and they couldn't keep that consistant power without sharing it. They the declared themselves as the Dictatorship fo the Proletariat. As a result, the Russian Civil War broke out and went deep into the year of 1920.
  • Russian Revolution

    There were actually two different "revolutions" that broke out within this Russian Revolution. The first was in February and started because people would riot over food prices in the capitol of Petrograd and things would only get more choatic for the state. This led Nickolas II to ritire, for he wasn't very popular anyway as Tsar.
    A new Government after that was created called the "Provisional Government", this considered those for whom wanted a democracy. The Bolsheviks weren't not to fond of
  • Russian Revolution pt2

    of this set up of governement. and so their army was more than ready to fight against it. With great power the Bolsheviks (led by Lenin) took great control and later that November stated the second revolution against the Porvisional Governement. Eventually Lenin gained much power and siezed these revolutions by sacrificing much land over to Germany.
  • Creation of Communist Party

    Bolsheviks nationalized all prperty and declared a "war communism" which then put everything (factories and railroads) all under government control.
  • Lenin's New Economic Party

    Lenin's New Economic Party
    Also known as "State Capitolism", was started by Vladimir Lenin. This allowed, after the start of communism, small businesses such as smoke shops and animal businesses to collect privet profit while larger industries such as banks, foriegn trade, railroads were still under state control.
  • Establishment of the USSR

    The USSR created good ecomonics for Russia and increased living statdards rapidly. Education was free and everyone was happy.
  • Stalin's 5 Year Plan

    Joseph Stalin statred this in 1928 to basically industrialize the USSR in the shortest amount of time as possible. There were more than one attempt at this plan but was interupted each time by a huge event. WWII for example interupted the fifth plan. It wasn't completed until 1932.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    The Soviet Union started a project secretly approved by Fidel Castro and Premier Nikita Khrushchev to build muclear weapons on the small island nation of Cuba. Once the USA got wind of this, secret missions were assigned to discover if the rumors were true. More and more tension grew and eventualy and October 28th, Khrushchev agreed to dismantle the weapons and return them back to the Soviet Union.
  • Glasnost and Perestoika

    Glasnost- Freedom of Speech
    Perestoika - Restucturing
    The idea behind these two words was to expose the flawed way of life. To expose the corruption within political, economic and social control and give more freedom in a Russians dailey life.
  • Fall of communist Party

    Eventually, with a new age and generation of people. The idea of being free becomes more and more attractive. Eventually, any government that oppresses its citizens into strong obedience will eventually have it's people rebel against it. The U.S.S.R. faced this problem and led them to be voted out of government in 1991.
  • Democracy of Russia Implemented

    The 1993 constitution declares Russia a democratic, federative, law-based state with a republican form of government.
