    (4) Juno Beach
    Juno Beach was created along the east coast with the "settlement of the ocean dune by a small group of motel and tourist court owners." The town was formed in 1953. The town is located in an area with native civilization dating from 500 B.C. and European contact dating from sixteenth century A.D. Spanish exploration and settlement. This incorporates COLONIALISM from our political geography notes. Another oncept I connected between Juno beach and human geography is human-enviroment interaction.

    (5) Palm Beach County Courthouse
    The Palm Beach County Courthouse was built in 1916. The Hedrick Brothers begain working on restoring it in 2004. It was named after West Palm Beach and there is a musuem about the history of the building that was opened in 2008. A courthouse falls into the QUINARY SECTOR of the ECONOMIC SECTORS. Also, the building of the courthouse impacted the enviroment and the restoration brought the building into today's style. The restoration brought jobs and affected the ECONOMY, bringing jobs in.
  • (9) Roger Dean Stadium

    (9) Roger Dean Stadium
    The stadium was built in 1998. It's named after Roger Dean Chevrolet, a family-owned dealership in Palm Beach since 1965. Activites are held there weekly, including sports and festivals. Sports are a large part of American CULTURE. The stadium is located in Abacoa, right near residental housing, making it a walkable distance to get to. This ties into DISTANCE DECAY, leading to people to participate in activites there because they live close to the stadium versus people who live farther away.

    (10) Kravis Center
    The Kravis Center opened in 1992. Many names were mentioned in the making and funding of it. The arts are apart of all CULTURES, including: dance, singing, orchestra, etc. The Kravis Center influences not only culture, but provides entertainment and income to the economy. It impacts Dreyfoos as well. The kids can easily go to productions. The accessability to the center gives opportunnities to the students and the LOCATION is perfect for the school. This building ties into the culture unit.

    (1) A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts makes West Palm Beach unique
    A group of teachers suggested to make Dreyfoos in the 1980s. It opened in 1990 as the Palm Beach County School of the Arts. It was formed into Twin Lakes High School later on until finally becoming A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts when funded by Alexander Dreyfoos. The school is named after him in thanks. Dreyfoos is unique because it's no where else and it's an amazing school, one of the best in the nation. It's a very unique expierence only found in West Palm Beach and is related to unit 3.

    Temple Isreal was created in 1923 by six Jewish families in West Palm Beach. JUDASIM is one of the top religions of the world and is an ETHNIC, MONOTHEISTIC with it's HEARTH in Isreal/Palestine. The three religions I am talking about all come from the religion chapter of our human geography textbooks and all relate to CULTURE AND IDENTITY.

    CHRISTIANITY is one of the world's most famous religions. It's a non-ethnic, UNIVERSAL, MONOTHEISTIC RELIGON. Christ Fellowship is a church that worships God and supports christianity. Christ Fellowship started as a small group of worshipers in 1984 and founding fathers Pastor Dr. Tom and Donna Mullins with the board of elders created the church as it is today. It's a very popular church with many locations.

    BUDDHISM is one of the world's most famous religions. It's a UNIVERSAL RELIGION/philosophy and nontheistic. The Dharma Center of West Palm Beach was created by the Khenpo Rinpoches in 1999, however they came in 1983 to teach a group of young students and around places like schools and homes. Again, this relates to the chapter about RELIGION in the textbook and relates to CULTURE and IDENTITY in vocabulary terms.

    West Palm Beach's flat terrain is an example of SITE (the absolute location of a place, described by local relief, landforms, and other cultural or physical characteristics.) Site refers to unit 6 of human geography (urban geography.) West Palm Beach's site also includes: a tropical climate, swampy areas, and no elevations. It rains a lot and is usually very warm or hot. There are also beaches, sandy areas with lots of palm trees, and fruits and flowers all around.

    West Palm Beach supports oranges, sugarcane, and corn fields, for example, in the agriculture buisness. Another example, in Belle Glade, there are sugarcane fields. Pahokee and Loxahatchee also take part in the AGRICULTURE industry by growing various crops in RURAL areas. West Palm also supports various AGRIBUISSNESSES that include landscape operations. There are many green markets or fresh fruit stands located in all places of Palm Beach.

    (8) Military Presence in Palm Beach
    The military has a permanent residence in my house. My family has two flags in shadow boxes, which symbolize dead soldiers, veterans, deceased firefighters, etc. The military brings the NATION together, creating a sense of unity. The military works to prevent TERRORISM and is a part of the goverment, regarding unit 4. The goverment takes part in things like SOVERIGHTY and making laws, etc. to keep politics and people in check.

    MCMANSIONS are large modern houses that are considered ostentatious and lacks architectural integrity. McMansions relate to chapter 9 of our human geography textbooks. Mcmansions come with URBANIZATION and can be built within GATED COMMUNITIES or in the SUBURBS. There is talk of restricting mcmansions in West Palm Beach at the moment and have been for a few years due to worry about property values.

    CityPlace is a FUNCATIONAL ZONE of West Palm Beach. A FUNCATIONAL ZONE is a cluster of similar buildings with the same function in a city or town. CityPlace is a ton of buildings all around each other that are either food shops, clothing stores, resteraunts, movie theatres, etc. Most of it's ARCHITECTURE is west European-styled. A methodist church is in the center, relating too RELIGION and CULTURE and IDENTITY, etc. It opened in 2000. It increased our ECONOMY.

    (20) Ghettoization in Belle Glade
    Belle Glade is a perfect example of GHETTOIZATION in Palm Beach County, along with locations in Lake Worth, Riviera Beach, and Tamarind Avenue. Certain areas are apart of the DISAMENITY SECTOR. There has been RACIAL STEERING in getting African-Americans or Latinos to live there rather than Caucasians. There is a huge SEGREGATION between caucasians and other races. There is also a SOCIAL STRUCTURE between the farmers and other people, and the races.

    (19) CityPlace Gentrification
    CityPlace wasn't always an upbeat, income area. It used to be a low-income, poor area surrouned by ghettos and the nearby art school that is now Dreyfoos. CityPlace went through serious GENTRIFICATION and became what it is now in 2000. CityPlace went through URBANIZATION and is still becoming more and more urban with incoming stores, like the Le Macaron store that just opened a few days ago.

    Henry M. Flagler was born on January 2, 1830 in Hopewell, New York. He traveled to Florida a few times and thought it would attract many tourists, so he built a hotel here in 1885-88. He built a few more from then on. He is said to have invented modern Florida. As you can tell, he was very wealthy. The museum was his house that he built in 1900-01. He helped URBANIZE Florida and build Florida's INFRASTRUCTURE. He worked in the TERTIARY SECTOR and increased COMMERCIALIZATION in Florida.

    The only thing I love about living in Palm Beach County is the sense of familiarity I have with the area. I have a MENTAL MAP of the PLACE of and LOCATIONS in the area. I know about the CULTURE and CUSTOMS we have and/or hold. Palm Beach County is my HEARTH and it's where I'm most comfortable geography-wise. A part of my IDENTITY will always be here (although I'm not super happy about that.) This applies to all units of human geography, but mostly the five themes of human geography and unit 3.

    (12) Ethnic Food Store: Asian Market
    The Asian Market is located at 5891 S Military Trail Lake Worth, FL 33463. I believe the store has shut down and is now closed. It used to sell many foods of Asian ETHNICITY and CULTURE. The store sold seafood, sticky rice, Chinese herbs, soy sauces, various Asian candies, and more. A store like this reminds me of CULTURAL DIFFUSION, relating to unti 3. The store was apart of a chain of stores, relating to unit 7.
  • (15) Palm Beach County's Situation

    (15) Palm Beach County's Situation
    Palm Beach County's SITUATION is good, I'd say. Palm Beach County is doing well economically. We having URBANIZATION occuring and lots of URBAN places being created. Palm Beach County is getting more and more popular. It has easy transportation, lots of services, lots of jobs, lots of people, etc. Palm Beach along with having urban areas have rural areas for agricultural, like the sugar cane fields in Belle Glade. SITUATION relates to unit 6.

    The city of West Palm Beach has an URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE. West Palm Beach contains a CBD, INFORMAL SECTOR, NEIGHBORHOODS, COMMUNITIES, etc. All of this relates to unit 7 and urban development. Henry Morrison Flagler first came here in 1893 and built West Palm Beach to be the CITY it is today.

    Ponce de Leon made it to Palm Beach County in Apr 21, 1513. Juan Ponce de Leon built a cross at the Jupiter Inlet on his way south along the Florida coast. Ponce De Leon gave the title of Florida to the state because of the flowers he saw. Leon was related to COLONIZATION and IMMIGRATION and EMMIGRATION and MIGRATION from unit 3. There were many PULL FACTORS pulling Europeans to go exploring, like becoming rich.

    Mirabella at Miraso is an example of a GATED COMMUNITY. The layout of a gated community is an example of URBAN MORPHOLOGY. Gated communities are a PULL FACTOR for many people because they are under the impression that there is less crime in them. This relates to unit 7 and the urban development chapter.

    Royal Palm's ZONING REGULATIONS mission is: "The Planning and Zoning Department ensures development is planned, constructed, and documented according to the Village’s Comprehensive Plan and Village Code. The department also provides professional advice and technical expertise to Village Council, appointed boards and commissions, city departments, and citizens. Furthermore, the department is also tasked with reviewing and updating." This relates to unit 7.

    The CITY that is CityPlace has served for many examples in this project, but this is the last one. I would say CityPlace contains a CENTRAL BUISNESS DISTRICT (CBD.) There are many COMMERICAL and FINNANCIAL buisnesses, including: banks, Starbucks, Victoria's Secret, Publix, Panaera, Macy's, and many more. CityPlace has many stores all next to each other and buisnesses and is a a huge source of income. This relates to unit 7, especially the urban development chapter.

    The Palm Beach Zoo is an example of COMMERCIALIZATION because it attracts locals and tourists and is a huge tourist attraction. The Palm Beach Zoo began in the 1950s when Paul Dreher built a botanical garden in what was known as Bacon Park. Dreher decided to add a “barnyard petting zoo” for the children of the community and became popular over time, transforming into the zoo it is today thanks to the income it made. This relates to unit 7 and the chapter about urban development.

    There have been many complaints about URBAN SPRAWL in Palm Beach County. People are worried about endangering animals and ruining the already dying enviroment. People have been saying that Florida is becoming overcrowded, dirty, full of traffic, and is developing negative CITY traits. The urban sprawl affects the URBAN MORPHOLOGY.
