    He started working in the Office of Military Foreign Intelligence of the German Air Forces in 1936. He later joined the Nazi party.

    Schnilder opened a factory for the people to work in during November of 1939. The factory was called Emalia and Jewish people who lived in Kraków Ghetto were able to work there. It had 1,700 workers and at least 1,000 were Jewish.

    Kraków ghetto was liquidated and Oskar started allowing his Jewish workers to stay overnight at the factory.

    The SS and police suspected he was helping Jewish people while being unauthorized to do so. They arrested him three times but were never able to charge him.

    Schindler tried to relocate his factory and was successful. He and his team created a list of 1,200 or so Jewish people and 800 men and 300 or 400 women were taken away from camp to work in the factory.
