Nicolaus Copernicus's heliocentric theory
Nicolaus Copernicus introduced the heliocentric theory in 1543. This theory stated that the sun was the center of the universe as opposed to the geocentric theory which said that the earth was the center of the universe because God had made earth the most important. He knew that this new theory would spark controversy and he would be in danger because he was going against the Church.
