Science Timeline

  • Mr. Edgar

    Mr. Edgar
One of my first real opinions of science formed when I was in the 4th grade in Mr. Edgar's class. He was such a cool teacher and really made me love science! My older sister thought I was going to grow up to do something in the field of science because I was so interested in it.
  • Science Club

    Science Club
Because of Mr. Edgar, I took part in the school's after-school science club! I had lots of fun learning more about science and weather and doing little experiments.
  • Hurricane Rita

    Hurricane Rita
Hurricane Rita was a major event that encouraged my learning of science outside of school. I had learned about weather and hurricanes before being from SETX where we get a lot of hurricanes. In fact, Hurricane Katrina had just hit New Orleans the month before and I knew all about that. However, Rita hit home and hit it hard, and I experienced that first hand, especially the destruction it caused.
  • Coach May

    Coach May
Another teacher that was a big influence to me and my love of science was Coach May. In 6th grade, he taught science and let us do the coolest things. One of my favorite things was creating a model of a plant cell out of food. It was a big project, but I had so much fun and definitely learned the different parts of a cell and what they looked like and their functions.
  • Hurricane Ike

    Hurricane Ike
Ike was another hurricane that hit home for me, however Ike wasn't as bad as Rita. The reason I marked this one, too, is because I stayed a lot closer to town for this hurricane. I was outside on a swing when the outer rings of the hurricane winds started coming in, and I was able to see the sky change and really watch this hurricane roll in. That was a neat science experience for me.
  • Physics

    Physics
My junior year of high school, science lost it's flair. I liked it okay, but it wasn't great anymore. I took physics this year, which I thought I would like. I loved math, and this was science and math together. However, the formulas were weird, and it became just another math class with complicated formulas and all the fun was gone. There were still some fun aspects of the class, I just wasn't a fan anymore.
  • Current Thoughts and Feelings

    Current Thoughts and Feelings
I currently don't have bad feelings towards science. I enjoyed it for the most part through school, and I love learning about things and how they work and why. I am excited to teach science and find ways to make it enjoyable for a new group of students. Hopefully I can be an effective teacher of science.
