Section 1 Chapter 4 Battle of Lexington

  • The Sugar Act

    This act imposed a 6 pence per gallon of Molasses, but never actually happened because of the colonist protesting and resisting.
  • Stamp Act

    This act required all American colonist to pay taxes on every peice of printed paper they used
  • Stamp act repealed

    After months of the colonist protesting against the stamp act they finally voted to repeal the Stamp act.
  • Townshend acts

    Townshend acts are a series act passed by the British Parliament. They were named after Charles Townshend who proposed the idea. They put customs duties on imports of glass, lead, paints, lead, paper and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    A mob of American colonist gathered at the Customs House in Boston and started throwing snowballs at the British soldiers who were guarding the building. They were protesting against the British troops being in their city, who were enforcing unpopular taxation laws passed on the Americans.
  • Boston tea party

    In protest against taxation Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty boarded three ships in the Boston Harbor and threw 342 chests of tea into the water.
  • Closes the Harbor

    King George III shut the Boston Harbor until the colonist paid for all the tea that they dumped into the Harbor. Then not to long after that Massachusetts was declared it was a rebellion state, by the British Parliament.
  • The British are coming

    Joseph Warren learned from a source inside Britain, that the red coats would march to Concord that night. He told Paul Revere and William Dawes to go and warn them, they went to Lexington and told Samuel Adams and John Hancock to flee. On their way they met Samuel Prescott, who made it Concord, Revere was captured by British patrols, and Dawes was thrown from his horse and had to walk back to Concord.
  • Battles begin

    At dawn, about 700 british troops came to Lexington a only 77 militiamen gathered in the town green. They were told to disperse when a shot rang out, and to this day no one knows who fired first. In the end eight militiamen were dead and nine wounded, while only one Redcoat was injured. They continued to search for weapons in Concord,but everyone had already left, they burned everything that they found. The fire got out of control and the militiamen thought the whole town would be burned so they
  • Afterward

    They only killed roughly 250 Redcoats while they killed and wounded 90 of them. They proved that they could withstand one of the most powerful armies in the world.
  • Battles continued

    went to the North Bridge in Concord where the British soldiers were defending it,the British fired first but the colonist fell back. The British then searched Concord for about four hours. By that time almost 2,000 militiamen came to the area and more were arriving. Fighting started soon after, the militiamen were firing from behind objects and before long the British troops were retreating. When the British reached Lexington there were fresh Redcoats, but the colonist kept fighting ,winning war
