  • Rockefeller Incorperates standard oil

    Rockefeller Incorporates standard oil in ohio, but was active in the oil business since 1863. This was a turning point for all employees and big buisness men because it allowed for both parties to make more money. Considering the employees one could now better supoort his family because of the abundance of jobs. Mass production of goods needed able bodied men to fufill orders. The theme would be a man that has one goal in mind and that is doing the best he can for his loved ones.
  • Mark Twain publishes the gilded age

    Mark twain wrote this novel explaining the greed and corruption of politics. This shed a lot of light of what was going on behind close doors. With big business owners trying to squeeze every last onze out of thier workers without the need to increase pay. This event could have a theme of a hard working men being put through a hard working envirnonment with little to no care of thier rights and saftey. It wasnt intill later on where people and bosses lifes changed due to the need of labor laws.
  • Alexander Graham Bell invents telephone

    Alexander Bell succesfully transmitted human voice over a wire. This was a huge moment in history because it helped out people and businesses. Being able to communicate over a phone instead of letters saves not ony time but insures some privacy for individuals involved. This developed american soceity by forever changing the way to communicate and connecteing people together that might not have met before. Its hard to belive how people had to commnicate before and how long it may have taken.
  • Railroad strike of 1877

    Brakemen and fireman walk off the job at camden junction, Maryland. This resulted in the shut down of thousands of miles of railroad tracks. This was an event that repersented what happens to humans when pushed into a situation of unfair work conditions and the faliure to consider human rights. Such an event can lead to enourmous problems for tranportation throughout the states, but showed when people stick together it is possible for change to happen even amoung the grasp of the greedy.
  • First generation Ashcan painters

    John Sloan, Everett hin, George luks and willaim glackens were considered some of the first generation of ashcan painters. All these artists created beautiful well known work that depicted new yorkers at the time. With these new artists, there was a diiferent view potrayed of soceity at the time. This repersents the ashcan era and how the paintings depicted life at the current time. This was another big turn in history for many and these men has changed the way to look at the world.
  • Ashcan's first major exhibition

    This was the first real big event hosted to show off the ashcan style of art. Robert Henri rallied up artist all around to come and show off thier work. Now this was a event that many people were introduced to a new style of art. The people depicted in the art were acting in a way that many people of higher soceity classes might have not been able to see before. This was a great reperentation of how society was either brought together or pushed further apart from what was painted in the peices.
  • The masses

    The Masses was a famous magezine in the 1916's that displayed some of the ashcan art style. the reviews however were more of a negative viewpoint. It was said that in these paintings that many of the womens skirts were shown hitched up to high. With so many eyes now viewing these paintings the orginal eight artist that created the ashcan art style were given the nickname the eight. Robert was said to have enjoyed the nickname even though his paintings were seen as tasteless to many people.
