Sierra's PL Progression

  • Personalized Learning for all 7th Graders

Personalized Learning Pathways expand school-wide for 7th grade students. Three career pathways are identified. Health and Human Services, VAPA and Computer Science.
  • RUSD PL Design Elements

Students and staff master full implementation of three of the five RUSD Personalized Learning (PL) Design Elements. Students become active and competent Socially-Engaged Contributors and make positive contributions to their community. Students, staff and parents utilize student’s Learner Profile to fully understand students strengths, interests and preferred learning style. Staff effectively design and implement innovative Flexible Learning Environments to meet the needs of our students.
  • Personalized Learning for all 8th Grade

Personalized Learning Pathways expand school-wide for all students (7th and 8th grade). All students receive core content area instruction in one of three different Personalized Learning Pathways. Core-content instruction is standards-based, as well as incorporates course content directly related to the identified career-pathway.
  • Personalized Learning Plans

Personalized Learning Plans (a fourth RUSD PL Design Element) are fully developed and used by students, staff and parents to make informed decisions regarding students educational path.
  • Learning Space Re-Design

School site undergoes significant architectural re-design. Exterior space between classroom buildings is completely re-done to create additional learning space for students and staff. Open space learning zones are created throughout the campus. Interior classroom walls are removed to support blended learning instruction and promote student’s autonomy and choice in how they spend their school day.
  • Flexible Environments

Impediments to our Flexible Environments design element; such as attendance accounting, student locator tracking and period enrollment are eliminated, and students are able to personalize their daily class schedule to meet their needs.
  • Competency-Based Advancement

The fifth RUSD PL Design Element, Competency-Based Advancement, is fully recognized and student progress through their core content courses is no longer time-based, classroom-based or seat-based.
  • Voice-Choice-Pace-Path

Students use their own-unique learning management system to access a series of sequenced-learning activities, in which they have choice in how they demonstrate their competency with respect to a number of different learning targets. A significant portion of the student’s week is spent engaged in growth experiences associated with their identified PL Career Pathway.
  • No Bells---No Schedule

Bells are no longer used at the school site as students transition from one learning experience to another based on their Personalized Learning Plan. The Flexible Environments is fully realized as student no longer spend their day following a traditional six-period schedule.
  • Personalized Learning for All!

School-wide instruction is delivered in the personalized learning environment and students (with the help of their mentor) decide what subjects they will address, when they will and how.
