IBM is Founded
IBM stands for Internation Business Machines and was founded in 1911 by Charles R. Flint who made the decision to merge three companies. It is now the biggest computer company in the world. I thought that this was significant because it was founded so long ago and they probably didn't know at the time that it would later become largest computer company in the world. -
First Television System Invented
The first Television system was invented in 1923 by John Logie Baird in England. I think that this is significant because it made way for all the televisions to be created up to this point. Without television, life in 2012 would be hard, so I think this was a huge contribution to our world. -
Konrad Zuse Invents First Freely Programmable Computer
In 1936 Zuse created the first binary computer which led to his creation of the Z2 and Z3 in 1939, and 1941. The Z3 had almost every component of a modern day computer. I think that this event was significant because it was the time when the first computer was created, so without this we wouldn't have computers. -
First Electronic Computer
The first electronic computer was invented in 1950 by Hideo Yamachito in Japan. I think that this is a really important date in computer history because it was pretty much the first computer that works similar to the ones we have today. -
First Computer Game Created
The first computer game was created in 1962 by Steve Russell and MIT. It was a Spacewar computer game and led the way for computer games to become extrememly popular in our days now. I think that this is an important date because the computer game business is HUGE now and I think because of this invention it kind of changed everyone's lives. -
First Word Processor
The first Word Processor was invented in 1979 by Micropro International. The software was called WordStar. I think that this is important because in our days now, we use word processing software for almost every assignment, work project, etc. -
First Home Computer With GUI
The first home computer with GUI was invented in 1983 by the Xerox Corperation. I think that this is important because GUI does almost everything for us on the computer screen and without it I don't know that we'd even have very technologically advanced computers. -
Microsoft and Apple Begin Their Rivalry
Microsoft and Apple began their rivalry in 1985 after Microsoft announced their new software Microsoft Windows. I think that this is significant because in our world today, Apple and Microsoft are pretty much the only computer companies we think of and everyone has their own little rivalries of which one is better. -
Google was Founded
Google was founded on September 7, 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. I think that this was a HUGE contribution to computer history because it is used almost daily by anyone that has internet. We go to Google for everything, and I think that it is an amazing invention.
