    Underground Railroad Part1
    The Underground Railroad wasn't really underground or a railroad it was a system of routes and trails that lead to freedom with abolitionist helping runaways slaves get to freedom. Harriet tubman was one conductor out of many and she returned 19 times to get fugitives slaves and if they were trying to give up she pointed a gun at them and told them to keep moving.

    People that were contributing in the underground railroad used secret codes so that the slaves catchers and slave owners couldn't figured out what they were saying and found out the trail and passageways to freedom. Slavery started in 1500s and ended in 1865 December 6.

    Many Abolitionist and slaves did things to try to stop it like the nat turner rebellion where slaves got together and tried to take over plantations. The abolitionist tried by speeches and newspaper and other sorts of thing to try to stop the cruel treatment of black people.

    The compromise was an argument over Missouri Compromise joining as a slave state but is was also good for our country because we gained a lot of new territories/States and everything was equal with both sides north and south and both sides benefited and that kept the peace among each other. The north got 9 free territories and gained a free state which is Maine.

    Then they made imaginary line called the 36 30 line where there will be a side where slaves are allowed and side where they aren't On March third 1820 congress passed the Missouri Compromise and Henry Clay was in office when this happened.

    The north didn’t agree that slavery was still allowed in in other territories and they didn’t think it was fair and Missouri had become a slave state because they have been given more states than the south. The south had been given a slave state also 4 slave territories. The south disagreed on there were only 4 were allowed to have slaves and slaves can only go in limited places.

    The Nat Turner's Rebellion had a lot of enslaved people who tired of being treated badly and clearly had Nat Turner in it. This all started August 22-23,1831 in the state of Virginia and at the Travis plantation Nat was tired of being abused so he got revenged and kill his master and his family but it didn't stop there the rebellion went to other slaves houses and killed there white master to till they were all stopped by the white men.

    This event took place because black people were tired of being treated like property and they wanted to have freedom so they all gathered up and started at Nats plantation first cause was the leader and from there they went to other people plantation and did the same to them. So this was all caused by the white people treating the slaves like trash.

    The Kansas Nebraska Act was made because of Stephen Douglass wanted more votes to become president and make Chicago a main hub for railroads.Stephen said that as soon as the territories become states the faster he would be able to make the railroads. Douglass thought everybody would be happy but the north did not agree with this so they called him southern sellout. He supported popular sovereignty and to get rid of the 36 30 line because he knew that if he didn't do that he wouldn't get enough

    votes to become president and to make the railroads, but the bad thing was both the north and the south wanted this land. At this time Franklin Pierce was the president at this time and also the one that signed The Kansas Nebraska Act into a law on May 30th 1845.

    The Dred Scott Case of 1857 was because Scott wanted to become a freeman so he fought for the right of freedom but sadly he lost. Dred Scott is a slave at this time but his master brought him into free state of Illinois and free territory of Wisconsin and he lived in free territory for about 10 years so he had believed he was able to become a free man and had a chance of winning against the courts.

    Scott case went for a while he even made it to the supreme court. Sadly they believed he was never free in the first place and as a slave he had no right to even fight for his freedom. This case made that no African American men, women, and kids could never become citizens of the United States.

    Scott was sold to another master but his original master son bought him and set him free with his wife. Nine months later Dred Scott died of natural causes he had only been a free man for nine months.

    The compromise was created because the issue of california becoming a state both the south and the north wanted it. The authors of it were Clay, Daniel Webster, John C. Calhoun, and Stephen Douglas. They tried to make the compromise equal for both sides the north and the south. the north got California as a free state and stopped the slave trade in Washington. The South got a law that stated that all runaway slaves should be brought back to their owners called the Fugitive Slave act

    be brought back to their owners called the Fugitive Slave act but basically all black were kinda in a pickle because even if they were free blacks if a white person didn't back them up they got put into slavery. The fugitive slave act made a lot of black people fled to Canada because salves catchers couldn't catch them there.

    The Bleeding Kansas started because both the north and the south wanted this land , but the tension didn't start till the kansas Nebraska Act became a law. Pro Slavery settlers from Missouri came to kansas to vote illegally in territory hoping it will become a slave state. The first act of violence was started by proslavery people in Lawrence Kansas where they burnt down a hotel and some Newspaper selling place.

    That made most abolitionist made like John brown and his sons he killed five men in front of their families at Potawanna creek because people believed they had something to do with the first attack on the non slavery people. The committed anti slavery people were called Free soilers people even came from New England to help fight against the slave power.

    On October 16, 1859 John Brown attack Harpers ferry in Virginia. James Buchanan was president during this attack on Harpers ferry. This attack made the southerners give John Brown a nickname of the meteor of the war and held him as a martyr. Robert E Lee was the one that took back the arsenal from john brown and his soldiers.

    Brown's sons died in the arsenal when they were held up and someone cut off an old slave ears off to keep it as a trophy. Later on John Brown was tried for treason and hanged.

    The Abolitionist I am picking is john Brown is because I believe he did the most to put an end to slavery and even risked his life and the life of his sons for the right for slaves to be free and have a life just as we do now. Him and his sons hacked five pro slavery men at Patawaania Creek. led 5 black and 13 whites into Harper's ferry to fight. He led an attack on Harpers ferry in 1859 2 of sons were killed.

    Later on John was captured by Robert E Lee and sent to jail. The Northerners held him as a terrorist and called him the meteor of the civil war. He was tried for treason and paid the price by getting hanged and on his way out he gave a note to a guard saying that this won’t end without blood then he died.

    John Breckinridge was a democrat had all southern states to vote for him. Wanted slavery to expand to the territories. John Bell Was Constitutional Union and Va, Ky, and Tn. He had a moderate view to slavery was a slave owner.

    The people running for presidential election were Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, John Breckinridge, and John Bell. Abraham was a republican and had all northern votes including CA and OR. Had a moderate view to slavery didn’t want it to spread but didn’t want it to go away. Stephen is a Democrat had only two states vote for him Missouri and New Jersey was fine with slavery and supports popular sovereignty.
