a law is passed that makes it so black and white people will be separated in schools. -

nelson mandela goes to prison with abunch of other people. because they were trying to fight apartheid. and he is charged with treason but after a four year trial he is declared not guilty. -

the goverment makes new laws that major black groups have to live at places called bantustans. -
69 people die in the sharpeville massacre
apartheid requires black people to carry a passbook on them. and when protesters showed up without them a riot broke out and 69 people died -
nelson mandela gets arrested again
he was arrested for his role in the bombing of the govermant targets. and this time he was sentenced for life in prison. -
Rhodesia illegally gains independence from great britain
the prime minister announces that Rhodesia has broken off from great Britain. and that white people will be running the government. -
south africa is banned from united nations
because of apartheid south africa can not get back in the united nations. until apartheid ends in 1994. -
more than 600 students are killed in the soweto massacre
high school students are protesting for better education. and police come and try to break up the protest. but they use guns and tear gas and kill more than 600 students. -
a anti apartheid steve biko gets killed
he is one of the organizers of the oweto protests. And gets arrested on august 18 1977. then he dies on september 12 because of the police beating him and he got severe brain damage. -
musicians start artists united against apartheid
the founder is steve van zandt they made the album called sun city. -
president fredrik william klerk unbanned the african national congress
he earned the the reward for nobel peace prize.
