The Apartheid started after the National Party was in power in South Africa in 1948. But because it is a all-white governmen began enforcing policies of racial segregation. -

In the 1970s there were more than 3 million people forced to resettle in black 'homelands. -
More than 600 killed in clashes.
There were more than 600 that were killed in clashes between black protesters and white security forces during uprising which started in Soweto. -
Anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko is killed.
Steve Biko, one of the people of the Soweto protest, was arrested on August 18, 1977. He died in police custody on September 12 and the cause of death was severe brain damage, likely he was beaten by police. -
Mandela released after 27 years in prison.
