The Soviet Union launched Spuknik I, becoming the first country to send a man-made satalite into space. It was 23 inches in diameter.
  • Sputnik II

It was the second man-made satalite to go into space. Laucned by the Soviet Union (again), it carried a live dog, which did not survive the trip.
  • Mercury Program

Launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The US got the first man past the Earth's orbit, That was it's purpose.

Launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The purpose of this flight was to get a flyby view of Jupiter and to leave the Earth's orbit.
  • Period: to

    Space Shuttle Program

The time the Space Shuttle Program was running. The Space Shuttle Program was what the US used to take things to space and back in reusable spacecrafts.
  • Pioneer Program 11

Launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The purpose of it was to flyby Jupiter and Saturn and to study an astriod belt.
  • Viking 1 (My Topic)

Launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The purpose was to land and study Mars while also transmitting pictures of Mars. Viking 1 was manned by NASA in Florida and landed on Mars while making 1,485 orbits. This was the first probe to land on the moon. It lost connection on August 17th, 1980.
  • Viking 2 (My Topic)

Launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The purpose was to land and study Mars while also transmitting pictures of Mars. Viking 2 was manned by NASA in Florida and landed on Mars while making 706 orbits. This was the second probe to land on the moon. It lost connection on July 25th, 1978. It transmitted 16,000 pictures.
  • Voyager 2

Launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The purpose of it was to study the outer area of the solar system. It took a flyby of Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Jupiter. It is still going and is the furthest man-made thing in space. It is in either interstellar space or in an unknown area in our solor system. It was launched before Voyager 1.
  • Voyager 1

  • Magellan Space Probe

Launched from Kennedy Space Station in Florida. It's purpose was to orbit around the Venus and map it out and take pictures of it.
  • Galileo Probe

Launched from Kennedy Space Station in Florida. The purpose of it was to orbit and get pictures of Jupiter. While doing so, it got a flyby of Earth and Venus.
  • Hubble Telescope

Launched from Kennedy Space Station in Florida. It revolves around the Earth once in 96 minutes. It has taken pictures 12 billion light years away!
  • Cassini Probe
