    Multistage Rocket Patented
    Andre Bing from Belgium patented the multistage rocket created by Robert Goddard. These multistages allowed to reduce the weight of the rocket. There is no use of the fuel tank once it is already in space.

    The first liquid fueled rocket was launched by Robert H. Goddard. This increases the efficiency of the rocket. The speed was 60mph, altitude was 41ft. Was fueled by liquid oxygen and gasoline

    The Soviet Union launched Sputnik, an artificial earth satellite. It was successfully put into the Earth's orbit in 1957.

    The first satellite was launched by the USA called "Explorer 1". It was built by Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The satellite was put into orbit on January 31, 1958.

    Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men to set foot on the moon. They landed on July 20, 1969 and gathered moon rocks, observations, and other tests for the scientists back on Earth.

    On April 12, the first space shuttle "Columbia" was launched successfully into space by the USA. A space shuttle was reusable and way more efficient.

    The space shuttle "Challenger" exploded seconds after liftoff killing all seven passengers. The O-rings were not tested in extreme cold, and during the launch in the morning the cold rubber became stiff and failed to seal the joint.

  • Hubble was Deployed

    Space Shuttle "Discovery" deployed Hubble Space Telescope successfully into orbit. Now scientists could explore Earth and the solar system easier. The atmosphere was not in the way of the telescope so images were much clearer.

    The ISS was launched to further scientific research in space. The contributors were USA, Japan, Canada, Europe, and Russia. Now scientists could study in space. The ISS costed 150 billion dollars.

  • Columbia Broke Apart

    A small piece of insulating foam broke off the fuel tank, and smashed into the wing of the shuttle. It damaged a tile that protects the shuttle from high temperatures. Columbia couldn't stand the temperature and broke apart when coming back into the Earths atmosphere.
