    1946 Governors Race
    In 1946 African American men could finally vote for who they wanted governor. When Eugene Talmadge happened to win the election in November, 1946 and died the next month there was a real problem. Who was to be Governor? Herman Talmadge, Ellis Arnall, and M.E. Thompson all believed they should be governor. Eventually there was a re-election because they did not know who was governor.   • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    It was a major supreme court case, that made it illegal to make public schools seperate. The supreme court blamed the local public schools and lower court systems. The only good thing is that this made money because many whites put there kids in paid private school helping the economy.

    Both african americans Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter were declined from UGA because of their race. This almost caused UGA to lose all acreditation.     The SNCC or Snick was founded in the 60's. The organization standa for Student Non-violent Coordinating Comittee. They organize non-violent protests and they are a major help for the civil rights movements.     Sibley Comission
    Georgia governor Ernest Vandivier Jr. began closing all public schools to make them be desegragated like the federal government wanted. The sibley committee was is charge of finding what the people wanted desegrated schools or segragated schools.More people said they wanted them segragated.
  • Albany Movement

    Albany Movement
    The SNCC organized this peaceful protest that failed. The protestors all said they would not budge and in return the police put over 1,000 protestors in jail. There were no protestors left to protest.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    Over 200,000 people attended the march on Washington. The March on Washington was organized by many civil rights and religious leaders. This is where Martin Luther King shared his famous, "I have a dream" speech.     Civil Rights Act of 1964
    The act got rid of discrimination based off of race, color, religion, sex and origin. It also got rid of all racial segregation in places such as school or the work place. The act was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson.

    He was the first African American mayor of Atlanta.During his first term he made tons of public work programs and helped races get along. He also constructed the first fast public transportation, MARTA.
