    Equality in Education and rules that segregation was unconstituional
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Provides federal money to states for children who are disadvantaged which includes children with disabilities
  • Education of the Handicapped Act of 1970

    Developed State Grants for those with disabilities. It also provided funding for teacher training in the area of children with disabilities
  • PARC v. Commonwealth of PA (1972)

    Landmark development. This ruling required schools to provide Fre and appropriate education. Many states followed with similar rulings.
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973)

    Made discrimination illegal against and student receiving funding for disabilities
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975

    Federal funding to those who planned to engage in special education. Required the development and use of IEPs
  • The Handicapped Children's Protection Act of 1986

    Provided financial recovery options for parents who won lawsuits relevant to special education/disabilities
  • Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1990

    Landmark legislation. Added new categories of disabilities such as brain injury and autism.
  • The Idea Amendments of 1997

    Changed structure of IDEA, redefined the IEP team.
  • IDEA Improvement Act of 2004

    Added RTI model for addressing gifted students. and changes to the IEP
