Britain took over and split northern and southern Sudan in half. They put the government in the north and ignore the south. They bring with them trade, religion and monarchy. -

Nimeiri Becomes President in Sudan
On 1971 he was elected to be president. In 1983 he used the law of Islam called the “Sharia Law” in his country. His positioned lasted until 1985, and Mohammed Taha took his place. -
Oil is First Discovered in Sudan
Oil had been discovered in Southern Sudan, but there was no way for the south to transport the oil. Using the pipes connected from the oil to north Sudan the oil was transported there. The Northern Sudan kept the oil and the profit to themselves refusing to give any to the south. With this, the South would not give them more oil. -
SPLM/A is Created
SPLM/A It were created in 1983 and were given up in 1989 when Omar Al Bashir became president. They had fought against governments of Nimeiri, Sadiq al-Mahdi. -
2nd Civil War in Sudan
The war was between the north and south of Sudan. They were fighting about culture, religion and also the natural resources that the south has and the north wants to get all the profit. The war mostly took place in the Southern Sudan. -
Major Famine in Sudan
A drought hit Sudan causing famine, poverty, and starvation. Crops and food couldn’t grow; thousands of people were dying because of starvation. -
Omar Al-Bashir Becomes President
Omar Al-Bashir did bad things to the people in the south and also the Darfur tribes. In the second Civil War, Omar Al Bashir captured homeless boys from the South and made them kill people. He also paid the Janjaweed to do ethnic cleansing to the Darfur people -
Darfur Conflict Starts
notebookThe conflict was between the Northern government and the Darfur rebel groups. The Darfur people were not agreeing with the government. Omar Al Bashir sent Janjaweed to remove all the Darfur people. Many of Darfur people evacuate to Chad a nearby country.
