Elizabeth Cady Stanton held the famous Seneca Falls Convention in July of 1848. At this meeting, the attendees drew up its “Declaration of Sentiments” and took the lead in proposing that women should be granted the right to vote. -

Joining For A Lifetime
Anthony's acquaintance with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, led her to join the women's rights movement. Soon afterward she dedicated her life to women's suffrage. -
Women's Loyal National League
Stanton and Anthony organized the Women's Loyal National League and gathered 300,000 signatures on a petition demanding that the Senate abolish slavery by a constitutional amendment. -
The Revolution
Stanton and Anthony began publishing the Revolution, a newspaper written for women's suffrage. -
NWSA
National Woman Suffrage Association was founded by Anthony and Stanton with Elizabeth Cady Stanton as president. -
Arrested
Anthony was arrested in Rochester in 1872 for voting. Her lawyer paid her bail, keeping the case from the Supreme Court. At her trial in 1873 the judge fined her $100, but did not imprison her when she refused to pay, therefore denying her chance to appeal. -
Declaration And Protest
Stanton writes a Declaration and Protest of the Women of the United States to be read at the centennial celebration in Philadelphia. When the request to present the Declaration is denied, Anthony and four other women charge the speakers' rostrum and thrust the document into the hands of Vice-President Thomas W. Ferry.
