    The Walkman was invented by Masura Ibuka at Sony in 1980. This was a portable cassette tape that allowed people to listen to music on the go. The walkman was technically created in 1979 but wasn't released to the public until 1980. Before the walkman people had to lug around bulky cassette players or stereos if they wanted music. This was the first portable player with a headphone jack instead of an external speaker so was very popular.

    The IBM Personal Computer was invented by Robert Noyle on August 12,1981. This gave access to computers and the internet to the average person from home. This was the computer that gave them the nickname of "PC". These were sold for $1565 which is equivalent to $4401 today. This model was discontinued only 6 years later because of better technology and big competitors.

    Microsoft Word was invented by Richard Brodie at Microsoft on October 25, 1983. The original name for this was the "Multi-Tool Word" but was changed shortly. The original word processor was the first with the ability to undo and display bold, italic, and underlined text, but only had a single font. The first price for Word was $489 which would be around $1000 today.

    The Apple Macintosh was invented by Steve Jobs from Apple on January 24, 1984. This was the first personal computer by Apple that we know of today as a "Mac". The original price of the Macintosh was $2500 which today would be $6100. Even though they were the most expensive personal computer they quickly became one of the most popular because of the technological advances that came with it.

It was first released in Japan and then three months later in North America. The first Gameboys sold for $89.95 which is $185.45 today. The most popular and best-selling game on the Gameboy was Tetris which they sold 30.6 million of.
