TED 200 Timeline

  • The Factory Model

    The factory model wan to bring organization to schools which is still used to this day. Schools would run on bells and would indicate when to switch classes or school began and ended. this created discipline in the schools and many schools used this model. It created a routine for students to follow like they were in the daily work routine.
  • Ruby Bridges

    Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to be allowed into a school with white children. This cause many outbursts by people in the community because they did not want their children in school with Ruby. At the time she was only six years old and did not understand what was truly going on outside of that school. Ruby had to be escorted by six U.S. Marshals into the elementary school (Kaplan & Owings,2015,p. 152).
  • Brown v the Board of Education

    Brown v the Board of Education was a case were African Americans were trying to get segregation out of the schools. "The court concluded that education was the most important state and local government function: to prepare children to live as good citizens in a democratic society" (Kaplan& Owings, 2015, p.151). Here they are saying that education is needed for children to grow up and become good citizens.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind act introduced things like common core standards, federal support and head start for children. No Child Left Behind " represented the federal government's first serious attempt to hold states, districts, and schools accountable for remedying the unequal achievement among different student populations (Kaplan & Owings,2015, p.164). Here they are holding schools accountable for they way that they teach.
  • RTI

    In 2004 legislation included RTI to special education services for regular education students who have difficulties in math and reading. RTI introduced more effective instruction and made monitoring students more of a concern for teachers.
