  • Roosevelt: Battle of San Juan Hill

    Rough Riders was the name given to the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry under the leadership of Theodore Roosevelt. It was a decisive battle in deciding the fate of the United States Army campaign in Cuba. They were ordered to seize Kettle Hill in support of the main attack, the Rough Riders fought their way to the top despite heavy enemy fire.
  • Elected as President

    Theodore Roosevelt was elected as the 26th president upon the assassination of President William McKinley. He was not a direct elected president but was swore into office after the former president died. He became the youngest president in Nation's history at the age of 43.
  • Coal Strike

    Pennsylvania miners went on strike in 1902 for a shorter work-day and higher wages. Where they threatened to shut down the winter fuel supply to major American cities. It resulted in 9 hour workday and higher wages for the workers.
  • Northern Securities Case

    President Theodore Roosevelt instructed his Justice Department to break up the Northern Securities Company, a holding company that controlled all the major railroads from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. Roosevelt's administration accused the company of restraining trade. After the case went to the Supreme Court, the government emerged victorious and the company was broken into separate railroads.

    The National Reclamation Act, the measure set in motion of the dramatic transformation of arid sections of the American West to "reclaim" land for productive agricultural use. The Act required that water users repay construction costs from which they received benefits.

    The Congress passed the act with Roosevelt's support in 1903. The act stated that railroads were not allowed to give rebates to favored companies since these rebates had treated Midwestern farmers unfairly by not allowing them equal access to the services of railroads.

    Bull-Moose Party was a Progressive Republican third-party founded by Theodore Roosevelt. It ensured a Democratic victory by drawing votes away from the GOP. Roosevelt was outraged when Taft used the Sherman Anti-Trust Act to sue U.S. Steel for an action that President Roosevelt had explicitly approved. They became openly hostile and Roosevelt decided to seek the presidency in early 1912.
