    Temperance in the United States was first brought up in Connecticut. It was a movement that was started when economic change and urbanization was going on. It was for the abolishment of alcohol.

    I couldnt find when it had started but the Underground Railroad was a system of routes that lead slaves to free northern states. At its height, between 1850 and 1860, it was said that 100,00 slaves had escaped using the Underground Railroad. A worker on the railraod names Harriet Tubman had made 19 trips to the south freeing 70 slaves.

    The Frogers was the first dramatic poeam writen about the Temperance Movement written by John Blake White. It was made into a play and premiered at the Charleston Theater in Charleston, South Carolina. This sparked a whole new genre of theater.
