Texas' Freedom Fight

  • Mexican Government Bans Immigration

    On this day, Anastasio Bustamante banned American from immigrating to Texas. He feared that the Americans would influence the Texans to stray from Mexico. However, Bustamante couldn't stop the flow of Americans with his ban.
  • Rejection of the Constitution

    In 1833 (no specific date found) the Mexican government didn't like the idea of the Texas Constitution of Independence. Since they hated the idea of Texas gaining freedom the Mexican government declined every request the Texans asked for.
  • Battle of Gonzales and Start of Texas Revolution

    Battle of Gonzales and Start of Texas Revolution
    Mexicans were on their way to take a weapon back to Mexico. They were going to use it to become the high power and scare of the Native Americans, or Indians. The Texans wouldn't let the Mexicans enter Gonzales and fought against the Mexicans. John Henry Moore led the Texans to the victory of the fight, and this battle started the Texas Revolution.

    The Battle of Goliad was the second major fight in the Texas Revolution. The Texans emerged victorious in this fight with about 1 causality. Settlers from Texas found Mexican soldiers at Presidio La Bahia and attacked. The win allowed Texans to take a great number of food and supplies.

    Battle of Concepcion
    The Battle of Concepcion was the first battle where both sides had guns. It was also the first battle led by Stephen F. Austin, on the Texan side. The Texans went into San Antonio to fight the Mexican soldiers. Surprisingly, the Texans won even tough they were greatly outnumbered. This battle also led to the start of the Siege of Bexar.

    The Siege of Bexar was the side effect of the Battle of Concepcion. The battle ended in victory for the Texans. The Texans also gained control of San Antonio. After the siege Texans controlled almost all of Texas.
  • Battle of Lipantitlan

    Battle of Lipantitlan
    The Battle of Lipantitlan was fought near Nueces River. This battle was to take one of the last two garrisons the Mexicans had. The Texans also wanted to make sure the Mexican army wouldn't be able to retake control of Goliad. Luckily, the Texas army won the battle pushing more of the Mexican troops back to Mexico.

    The Grass Fight was a big disappointment. The Texans won but they found only grass not silver. The reason for the fight was that Texan scouts found mules from the Mexican army and fought the Mexicans thinking they contain silver.

    Battle of the Alamo

    The Battle of the Alamo lasted about two weeks. The Mexicans destroyed in the battle killing every single Texan defender at the battle. Although the battle killed almost 200 Texans there was a benefit from it. The Texan rebellion gained more Texan and American support.

    The battle took place around the area of San Patricio. The Mexican army won the battle but the Mexicans left Texas. They wanted to try and take the Texas Gulf. Tis battle also started the Mexican's Goliad Campaign.
  • Declaring Independence

    The Texans made their own Declaration of Independence. The declaration was made at the Convention of 1836. They also made the Constitution of the Republic of Texas. The Texas military made Sam Houston general to help in the war.
  • Battle of Algua Dulce

    Battle of Algua Dulce
    The Battle of Algua Dulce was started by the Mexicans getting the jump on the Texans for the Goliad Campaign. This was more of a skirmish fight then a battle. The main battle took place near Tamaulipas. The Mexicans in the end triumphed over the Texans.
  • Battle of Coleto

    Battle of Coleto
    The Battle of Coleto was another loss for Texas.The battle lasted two days. The Texans were snuck up on and outnumbered during the defense of Coleto Creek. The Texans surrendered on March 20,in the morning, due to low supplies and being overpowered by the Mexican armies attacks.
  • Goliad Massacre

    The Goliad Massacre killed over 400 Texans. The Texans that died surrendered in the Battle of Goliad. This angered Texans making them want freedom even more.
  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Battle of San Jacinto
    The Battle of San Jacinto was the final push Texas had. The Texans won the battle allowing them to have the freedom they had been fighting for. The battle was led by Commander Sam Houston. The battle took place near La Porte. They won by capturing Santa Anna. The number of Texans that died was nothing in comparison to the amount of Mexicans.

    The treaty was the freedom that Texans fought for. The Republic of Texas and Santa Anna both signed the Treaty of Velasco.The Mexican Government was upset at Santa Anna for signing the Treaty of Velasco and that he didn't have a right to sign it according to the government.
  • President Sam Houston

    President Sam Houston
    Sam Houston, the commander that led the Texans to victory in the final fight became the first president of the Republic of Texas.
  • Texas Joins America

    Texas Joins America
    American president, Andrew Jackson, annexed Texas turning it into the 28th state of America. It was a slave state when it joined America. Sam Houston became governor.
  • Mexican-American War

    The Mexican-American War has started. The war started at the Rio Grande where Mexican soldiers attacked U.S. troops. The fighting started over a conflict of who the land belonged to.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    The Mexicans were defeated in the war. They gave over more than 500,000 miles of land due to their lost. The Mexican government finally accepted the fact that Texas is part of Texas.
