    Constitution of 1824
    The Constitution of 1824 was made. It was very similar to the United States constitution, except that Mexico required its citizens to be Roman Catholic.
  • Fredonian Rebellion

    Fredonian Rebellion
    The Edwards brothers forced Anglo and Hispanic people to either move or pay for their already owned land. They obviously disliked this, so the contract was removed a year later. The republic of Fredonia was declared free from Mexico.
  • Mier y Teran Report

    Mier y Teran Report
    Mier y Teran traveled to Texas to observe the Indians, and discover the Anglo American's attitude about Mexico. After discovering that America was gaining control over Texas, he suggested to build more forts and garrisons along the border.
  • Guerrero Decree

    Guerrero Decree
    The President of Mexico made a new law abolishing slavery in Texas. Many of the settlers owned slaves, so they left Texas. This helped to reinforce Mexico's control over Texas, as it no longer had the same amount of settlers as before.

    The law of April 6, 1830 made to do what Mier y Teran suggested, and limit immigration to Texas. First, they suspended most empresario contracts to prevent empresarios from bringing in settlers. Possibly the most controversial decision of the law was to ban American immigration into Texas.
  • Conflict at Anahuac

    Conflict at Anahuac
    One of the first conflicts between Texas and Mexico, the Anahuac Conflict was triggered when Davis Bradburn arrested William Travis and Patrick Jack. The rebels set up a rescue force of around 200 men to skirmish the fort at Galveston Bay. After a day of skirmishing, the rebels proposed an exchange, but Bradburn refused to release the prisoners. The conflict ended when Bradburn's superior called him off and released the prisoners.

    Turtle Bayou Resolution
    In the Turtle Bayou Resolutions, the rebels took advantage of knowing that Santa Anna had just won a major war, they pretended to side with his Federalist ways, saying the troops at Anahuac were against the rebel's true desires. The Federalist investigator was convinced, and left without punishing the settlers.
  • The Battle of Velasco

    The Battle of Velasco
    The Texan rebels were attempting to get a cannon to Anahuac by boat to rescue William Travis and Patrick Jack from prison, due to the Conflict at Anahuac. The Mexicans tried to resist this, but the rebels fought back in possibly the first case of bloodshed between Texas and Mexico.

    Convention of 1832
    The convention of 1832 was held at San Felipe de Austin. 55 delegates elected Stephen F. Austin as president. The convention also added the organization of militia. Likely the most controversial event was when they requested separate statehood from Coahulia, which the Mexicans wouldn't like, judging on the fact that they formed it in the first place.

    In the convention of 1833, the Texans asked to repeal the anti-immigration section of the Law of April 6, 1830. They also stuck with their reasoning for separating Coahuila and Texas, however to no avail. They also requested better Indian defense, removal of certain tariffs, improving the mail system, and prohibiting African slave trade into Texas.
  • Stephen F. Austin goes to Mexico City

    Stephen F. Austin goes to Mexico City
    Stephen F. Austin left to go to Mexico City from San Felipe in April, and arrived in Mexico city in July. He was going to try to repeal the law of April 6, 1830. However, Santa Anna accused him of inciting insurrection in Texas, and arrested him. No charges were made, and he was a prisoner for over a year, before they released him, not to leave Mexico City.
  • The Consultation

    The Consultation
    The Consultation served as a debate for those who wanted to keep ties with Mexico, and those who wanted to declare independence immediately. Many delegates could not attend due to battles with Mexico. They decided on a provisional government loosely based on the Constitution of 1824. Sam Houston was named commander of the army.
