  • Constitution of 1824

    Constitution of 1824
    In 1824, the Mexican government created a constitution. It was similar to the United States constitution, having a president for 4 years terms, a Supreme Court, and two houses of Congress.
  • Fredonian Rebellion

    Fredonian Rebellion
    On April 14, 1825 Haden Edwards received a grant to settle 800 families around Nacogdoches. He forced settlers who could not provide proof of the ownership to either pay him, or get of his land. This upset the older settlers and a year later his contract was cancelled. In response to the cancellation, Edwards formed an alliance with the Cherokee Indians and declared the Republic of Fredonia separate from Mexico. When the Mexican militia reached him, he and his settlers fled.
  • Mier y Teran Report

    Mier y Teran Report
    In 1827 the Mexican President sent General Mier y Teran to lead a boundary and scientific expedition to Texas. He was there to look at the natural resources and to determine the boundary between the United States and Mexico. In his report he said that Mexico should take extra precautions to keep Texas from the US. This caused a change to the constitution, stating that no more american settlers can come to Texas.
  • Guerrero Decree

    Guerrero Decree
    The Guerrero Decree abolish slavery in Mexico. It was hoped to discourage american settlers. The decree reached Texas, but was withheld because it was in violation of the the colonization laws. Texas asked if they could be exempted from the law, because their settlers had slaves. Mexico granted their wish.
  • Law of April 1830

    Law of April 1830
    A law was passed to abolish slavery in Mexico in an attempt to limit settlers. Stephen F. Austin protested and some parts of the law were reduced, but Texas settlers started to distrust the government.
  • Conflict at Anahuac

    Conflict at Anahuac
    Two settlers were arrested by Davis Bradburn and the settlers mounted a rescue. It was resolved when a person superior to Bradburn, released the prisoners.
  • Turtle Bayou Resolutions

    Turtle Bayou Resolutions
    The Turtle Bayou Resolutions were passed, stating how Mexico was not following the Constitution and urging people to join the patriots.
  • Battle of Velasco

    Battle of Velasco
    Henry Smith and John Austin went to retrieve a cannon, and a battle started with the Mexicans trying to prevent them from getting the cannon. In the end Mexico had to surrender because they ran out of ammo.
  • Convention of 1832

    Convention of 1832
    Fifty Five delegates met to discuss Texas. They wrote resolutions asking for reduction on the anti-settlement rules of the Law of April 1830. They also requested separate statehood from Coahuila.
  • Convention of 1833

    Convention of 1833
    Fifty six delegates met on the day Santa Anna took control of Mexico. They talked about thing like Indian defense, and Abolishing slavery. They also proposed to split Texas into its own state. Austin went to Mexico City to deliver these.
  • SFA Goes to Mexico City

    SFA Goes to Mexico City
    Austin went to Mexico to deliver their resolutions. He left happy, though Santa Anna had refused their separate statehood. On his way back he was arrested.
