  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    These acts allow only English ships to bring goods into England, and only allow America to export the goods. After these acts, trading between these two countries became drastically different.
  • French and Indian War ends

    French and Indian War ends
    Throughout this war, Great Britain gained enormous amounts of land in North America. The expenses from this war were a part of what caused the Revolution. The French and Indian War officialy ended with the Treaty of Paris.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act put a tax on all printed materials from newspapers to playing cards. The stamp act was an unnecessary law added by Britain which fueled the Americans fire.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Patriots protested against England in Boston which eventually turned into the killing of several Patriots. This massacre was a massive reason for the colonies to fight against England.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act gave British companies the ability to directly send tea to North America and export it duty-free. The colonies boycotted this act which eventually led to Britain removing the tax.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    After the tax on tea was put in place, the Americans became angry. They decided to protest the Tea Act by throwing 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. This protest gave both sides a reason to go to war.
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were passed by the British to punish the Americans for the Boston Tea Party. After passing these laws, the Parliament expected the colonies to stop unifying and to stop fighting. The response to the acts was fierce and ultimately led to the American Revolution.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Delegates from all thirteen colonies met in Philadelphia to determine how to respond to the Intolerable Acts. This meeting brought ideas of how to rebel against the Parliament and its outrageous laws. This meeting was held and attended by many important people like George Washington and Sam Adams.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    These two battles were the first in the American Revolution. The British marched from Boston to Concord for the war to begin. At Lexington, Britain retreated after taking heavy fire. These battles set the scene for the whole American Revolution.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    This meeting was the initial one after the First Continental Congress. This meeting though, was held after the American Revolution began. The purpose of this was to decide on the colonies’ plans to defeat the British.
  • Declaration of Independence adopted

    Declaration of Independence adopted
    The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. This article was the official document that declared the colonies freedom from Britain.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The Battle of Saratoga was a three-pronged attack by the British. This battle ended in the British troops being surrounded then surrendering. This one attack was so significant because it was the only one that got this close to the target.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    Winter at Valley Forge
    The winter season at Valley Forge was terrible. There was a shortage of food, clothes, and medicine; the men were exposed to disease and harsh weather conditions. This time of need show the true hearts of Washington and his men.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This battle was one or maybe even THE most important battle of the whole war. After Britain was defeated by the colonies, they surrendered and it ended the American Revolution.
  • US Constitution written

    US Constitution written
    From May 5th to September 17th, the delegates from the colonies were busy writing the Constitution for the US. This document states the beliefs that our country is built on.
  • US Constitution adopted

    US Constitution adopted
    The Constitution was finally adopted after four year of it being written. The initial ten amendments were ratified in 1789 but only got adopted in 1791.
