  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    Battle of Lexington & Concord
    Was the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. Hundreds of British troops marched from Boston to Concord in order to seize an arms cache. Paul Revere and other riders alerted colonial militiamen to begin mobilizing to intercept the redcoat column. A confronation on the Lexington town green started the fighting, and soon the British were retreating under intense fire.
    The patriots won the battle and it showed the British that the Americans weren't just rebels.
  • Battle Of Bunker Hill

    Battle Of Bunker Hill
    Having learned that the British were planning to send troops from Boston to occupy the hills surrounding the city, about 1,000 colonial militiamen under Colonel William Prescott built an earthern fortification on the top of Breeds Hill. Because of their limited supply of ammunition Prescott reportedly told his men, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes"
    Outcome- British victory, but showed that the patriots were willing to fight and it would not be easy.

    Battle of Long Island
    Enabled the British to capture New York. The British drove the Americans from Brooklyn and forced them to evacuate New York.
  • Battle of Trenton & Princeton

    Battle of Trenton & Princeton
    General George Washington's army crossed the Delaware on Christmas Day and won two battles over the next 10 days.
    Outcome- the victories reasserted American control over much of New Jersey and greatly improved the morale and unity of the colonial army and militias.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    Marked as a turning point in the Revolutionary War. The American victory convinced the French government to formally recognize the colonist cause and enter the war as their ally.
    Outcome- The Americans forced the surrender of Burgoynes force.
    September 19, 1777- October 7, 1777
  • Battle of Vincennes

    Battle of Vincennes
    George Rogers Clark led his men to the British Fort in Vincennes, Clark asked the British to surrender, they objected, so he tomahwked indians in front of the fort.
    outcome- won by militia led by George Rogers Clark
  • Battle Of Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis

    Battle Of Bonhomme  Richard vs. Serapis
    The Bonhomme Richard enrages the Serapis and the Countess of Scarborough. After inflicting considerable damage to the Bonhomme Richard the captain of the Serapis asked Jones if he was ready to surrender. Jones replied, "I have not yet begun to fight". After 3 more hours of furious fighting the Serapis surrendered. After the victory, the Americans transferred to the Serapis from the Bonhomme Richard, which sank the following day.
  • Battle of Charleston

    Battle of Charleston
    The British launched their southern strategy to win the war. They intended on using Charleston, South Carolina as a base for further operations in the north. Clinton scattered American troops on the outskirts of the siege area. Benjamin Lincoln held a council of war and was advised by de Laumoy to surrender given the inadequate fortifications.
    Outcome- The city surrendered to the British

  • Battle Of Guilford Courthouse

    Battle Of Guilford Courthouse
    about 1,000 British soldiers under Cornwallis went on the offensive against Greene's 4,400 to 4,500 continental troops and militia. The battle raged for around 2 hours before Greene ordered his troops to retreat, giving the British a tactical victory but enabling the continental troops and militia to remain mostly intact
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    Was the last major conflict during the revolution, the victory of the Americans effectively sealed the British loss.
    Outcome- triggered the point of final surrender for British forces
