    During this time Stalin cuts off all of the rails, roads and the electricty that lead into West Berlin. This meant food and other supplies has to be dropped by planes to the people within West Berlin.

    East Germany fortificates the orignal wall with concrete walls that have steel tubing across the top, making it difficult to climb the fence that would trip an alarm, as well as anti-vehicle fortifications like watchtowers, spotlights, strips of 5-inch spikes, minefields (until 1983) and trenches before the actual wall.
