    Malcom was an African American Muslim minister and a human civil rights activist. In 1952, he became one of the leaders of the Nation of Islam to improve spritiual, mental, social, and economic condition of African Americans in the U.S
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    A landmark decision of the U.S supreme court that decalred state laws establishing integrated public schools for black and white students.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa was an African American civil rights activist, whom the U.S called "the first lady of civil rights." On December 1, 1955, Rosa refused to obey her bus driver, James F. Blake. He told her to give up her seat to a white passenger but she refused. Park's act of defiance became an important symbol of the modern civil rights movement and Parks became an international icon of resistance to racial segreagation.
  • Montgomery bus boycott

    Montgomery bus boycott
    People were inspired to boycott buses after Rosa Parks decided not to give up her seat on the bus. This sparked inspiration for hundreds of Blacks and whites to not ride the buses and boycott the public transportation. This lasted for a very long time.
  • Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson
    Was the first african american to be accepted into the MLB. He played for the dodgers. At first, he was discriminated against because of his race and many people thought he did not belong there. However, that changed when he helped the dodgers win the world series.
  • SCLC

    SCLC
    The SCLC was also known as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This was an association that drew power to Black churches and other public organizations.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    a band of activists that challenged segregation by traveling side by side on buses and trains in the deep south.
  • Executive order 9981

    Executive order 9981
    obligated military leaders to utilize economic rights of military against facilities used by soilders and families that discriminated against sex or race.
  • A. Phillip Randolph

    A. Phillip Randolph
    led people on the march on washington and was an activist. He was very influential and he tried to ban discrimination of blacks and other races in the military.
  • NAACP

    This was an organization thats purpose was to eliminate racial discrimination and ensure racial equality and economic equalities.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    anti-violent civil rights rally where Martin luther King and other Civil rights activists made speeches banning discrimination. All different races showed up here. The "I had a dream" speech was made here.
  • Martin Luther King jr.

    Martin Luther King jr.
    He was an african american civil rights activist. He was in charge of the SCLC and he led the March on Washington. He had a very large impact on the civil rights movement because he was one of the most successful motivational speakers of this time period.
  • Civil Rights act of 1964

    landmark or peace and legislation in the u.s. that outlawed major forms of discrimination against african americans and woman, including racial discrimination and segregation. It ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and segregation in schools.

    physical defense for freedom. Panthers self defense was recruited in poor areas for malcolm x.

    was an associate justice of the u.s. supreme court, serving from act 1967-0ct. 1991. Marshall was the courts 96th justice and its 1rst african american justice.
