    Igor Gouzenko, a cipher clerk working at the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa, provided the Canadadian government with Soviet documents containing the identities of Soviet spies in Canada in exchange for his safety.

    In an attempt to take over Berlin the Soviets blocked all means of access to the area of Berlin that the Allies controlled using a wall. The Allies responded with the Berlin airlift. They just dropped in the supplies and ended up sending more supplies than that sector of Berlin used to recieve.

    Egypt took over the entire Suez canal. Britain and France decided to come to the aid of Israel to take back the river. Germany threatened to aid Egypt. Before this conflict turned into war, a UN meeting was held and due to Lester B. Pearson's plan, there was no war.Pearson recieved a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in creating a mandate for a United Nations Peacekeeping Force

    Nations came together to form the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The purpose was to protect countries from further Soviet agression.

    Some of the military methods that were used during the Vietnam war were not accepted well by the public, this resulted in a very low amount of military volunteers. This caused conscription to be necessary. Since the people did not want to be part of the war, people moved to Canada for the duration of the war and moved back afterwards to avoid being conscripted.

    The North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) was created so that Canada and the US would help eachother against an attack from long range missiles. Canada let the US build defence systems along the northern border.

    Sputnik was the Soviets first satellite. This satellite seemed to prove that the Soviets won the space race. The rocket that put sputnik in orbit also provided the Soviets with a very large military advantage. The rocket would be able to fire a nuclear missile to bomb anywhere in North America.

    The United States had become aware that the Soviets had nuclear missiles sited in Cuba. The US formed a blockade around Cuba and if the line was crossed by a Soviet ship, nuclear war would have started. Thankfully the Soviets did not cross the line.

    American Bomarc missiles were approved by Prime Minister Diefenbakaer. The intended use for these missiles was for them to be used as a nuclear weapon, but Diefenbakaer did not allow nuclear warheads in Canada.

    Canada had claimed that they were the best hockey players in the world, but were nearly beat by the Soviets after they were tied up 3-3. The Canadians pulled through in the end to take the 7th game.

    The wall that was set up to seperate the Soviet portion of Berlin and the Allied portion of Berlin was destroyed. This ended the seperation between capitalists and communists in Berlin.
