    Unitied Nations
    The 1 of january the name Unitied Nations was first used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The 24 of October Was the offical creation of the Unitied Nations. The original goal was to defeat the axis powers.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    D-Day is the name of the day when the allies stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. This was the start of the end of WW2.
  • China's Civil War

    China's Civil War
    China's civil war was a struggle for power. Two forms of government were fighting to gain control of China. Chiang Kai-shek’s nationalist and Mao Zedong’s Chinese Communist Party used the military to position themselves to fight for power.
  • End of WW2

    End of WW2
    Short after dropping nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on august 6 and 9 Japan surrendered. This was the offical end of WW2 as the Germans had surrendered on May 7th of the same year.

    Winston Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech
    Churchill gave a speech about communism shortly after losing the election for prime minister of England. In this speech he spoke about the spread of communism accross the eastern point of Europe. When he meantion this he says that it must be stopped and the communism will try to take over democacry.

    The Truman Doctrine was about Greece's civil war. America wanted to keep the U.S.S.R. out of Greece to keep Greece from becoming a communist state.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall plan was a plan to help the countries of Europe after the end of the second world war. This plan helped 16 different European countries. These countries were given 16 billion dollars between 1947 and 1952.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    After the 2nd World War Germany was divided into four sectors. On for France, one for the U.S.S.R., one for Great Britain, and one for America. The capitol, Berlin, was divided into four sectors as well. Berlin was located deep into the U.S.S.R.'s territoery. The U.S.S.R. thought that if they blocked off all modes of transportation that the other nations would forefit their sectors. To get by this the other nations dropped supplies into their sectors for a year.

    NATO
    April 4, 1949 12 countries from Europe and North America signed a treaty that stated if one of the signatures was attacked it would be an act of war against all of them. This group was designed to stop the spread of communism and creat a large allaince for protection.

    U.S.S.R. First Atomic Bomb Test
    The first soviet atomic bomb tested was code named "first lighting." This bomb was made posible by Klaus Fuchs. This German scientists was on the team developing the nuclear weapons for America. He then gave the U.S.S.R. the secrets to the fat man bomb.

    North Korea crossed over the 38th parellel into South Korea. This action caused America to move into war. Due to fear of WWIII America worked quickly to form an armistice with North Korea.after some time of back and forth fighting North Korea accepted and the war ended with no offical winner.

    The H-Bomb was the next step in the evolution of atomic weaponery. After the success of the russian atom bomb America decided to take nuclear weapons to the next level.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower

    Dwight D. Eisenhower
    Before presisdency Eisenhower was a gerneral in the Army. As the first 5 star general in the history of the Unitied States, he lead the allied forces in the battle for Europe. After the war he spent some time as the presisdent of Columbia university. From there he bceame the the leader of NATO. As the leader of Nato he worked to neutralize the tesion between the U.S.S.R. and America. Presisdent Eisenhower was elected for two terms from (1953-1961)
  • Stalin's Death

    Stalin's Death
    Joseph Stalin died of a massive heart attack March 5, 1953. he is remembered as the man who save the U.S.S.R. from the Nazis and the murder of over 8 million of his own citizens.
  • End of Korean War

    End of Korean War
    The end of the Korean war was due to America threatening to use a nuclear missile. This caused China and Korea to back down which put to rest the Korean war. No side won or lost the war.
  • SEATO

    SEATO
    This is an international organisation for collective defense in southeast Asia. This organisation was founded to stop the spread of communism in Asia.
  • Vietnam War

    Communist northern Vietnam attack the southern Vietnam to gain control and force them to become communist. America deployed 500,000 troops to Vietnam. Roughly 58,000 died in Vietnam. The war divided America for year after president Nixon pull american soldiers out of the conflict.
  • The Warsaw Pact

    This was a group that was created in response to NATO. This group was created to protect all communist states that joined.
  • Francis Gary Powers

    Francis Gary Powers
    A spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers was shot down by the soviet union. The pilot was captured.
  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    Eisenhower Doctrine
    President Eisenhower proposed this to stop the spread of communism. The document said that any middle eastern country who turned away the communist movement the U.S.S.R. was doing would recieve American support.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    This is the first russian satellite. It was only the size of a beach ball and opened the door for other space operations.

    An unsuccessful attempt to throw Castro from power. 1,400 american trained cubans planned to invade Cuba and throw him from power.

    Fidel Castro takes over Cuba
    Fidel Castro took over Cuba from Fulgencio Batista. He established the first communist state in the western hemisphere.
  • Richard Nixon

    President Nixon was the president who ended the Vietnam war. Shortly after the war relations with the U.S.S.R. and china improved.

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall was used to divide east and west Germany. This kept western facsists out of eastern socialists areas.
  • Mutual Assurance Destruction

    Mutual Assurance Destruction
    This is the year when the U.A.A.R. became equal to the United States in nuclear power. This marks the most dangerous time in the cold war. Both side had enough nuclear power to destroy the other.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The closet the cold war ever got to a nuclear war was when Cuba was found with Russian planes and missiles. The Russian equipment was said to be there to stop any other invasions from America.
  • JFKs death

    JFK was shot during a parade in Dallas, Texas. Barely one thousand days into his presidency he was assassinated.
  • Lyndon Johnson

    As a president he wanted to end segregation and the bombing on northern Vietnam. He tried to end the Vietnam war by using diplomacy to stop the fighting.
  • Nasa Lands on Moon

    The day we kicked Russia a**. We sent a team to the moon. Buss Aldern, Michael Collins, and Neil Armstrong we the first men on the moon.
  • Salt- First Stratigic Plan Limitations Treaty

    Russia developes and Anti-missile system which causes the president to call for a treaty on defensive and offensive weapon production and development.
  • Gerald Ford

    President ford was put in presidency for the resignation of Nixon. After this he shifted focuses on the economy and inflammation. He also provided aid to Egypt and Israel. This was to keep them from entering war. He also set limitations on nuclear weapons with Soviet leader Leonid I. Brezhnev.
  • Jimmy Carter

    In his presidency Mr. Carter combated economic issues. He provided over 8 million jobs. He also had to handle the U.S. Embassy hostage crisis in Iran. All of the hostages were released on the day he left office.

    This is the second time we kicked Russia's a**. We beat them at hockey for the first time in 20 years. The russian hockey team had been undefeated for 20 years.
  • Soviets invade Afganistan

    The soviet union invaded afganistan under the pretext of the upholding Soviet-Afgan Treaty of Friendship of 1978. The soviets ordered massive airlifts into Kabal and secured it with in a matter of days.
  • U.S. Boycott of the Moscow Summer Olympics

    President Jimmy Carter announced that America would not participate in the 1980's summer olympics. The olympics took place in Moscow, Russia. Since Russia did not withdraw their troops from Afghanistan by February 20, 1980.
  • Ronald Reagan

    During his presidencry Ronald Reagen declared war on international terrorism. He also met with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to elimainate intermediate range missiles.
  • Star Wars

    The program is made to develop an antiballistic missile system. This was America's response to the possibility to Russian nuclear power.
  • Soviets leave Afghanistan

    The soviets agreed to withdraw troops from Afghanistan due to heavy war casualties. The withdraw was complete when Afghanistan returned to non allied status.
  • George Bush

    During George Bush's presidency he sent troops to both the panama canal and Iran. Bush was unsuccessful in lower inter city crime rates and a failing economy. Bush lost his reelection to William Clinton.
  • Tiananmen Square

    Protesters marched on the capital of China trying to force Chinese government to reform as a democracy. They wanted the communist leaders to decline power. This angered the Chinese government and caused them to open fire on a crowd of protesters. They killed and arrested thousands of men and women.
  • Berlin wall falls

    The government decided to take down the berlin wall in 1989. The night of the start was the greatest celebration in years for Germany.
  • Collapse of the soviet union.

    When Gorbachev became president he declined to use military power, the out lying satellite states rebelled and became their own countries.
  • Gorbachev's Rise to Power

    Gorbachev became the first president of the soviet union in 1990. He declined to use military force which caused the soviet union to fall because it's satellite nations left the union. By 1991 he fell from power and won the noble peace prize.
