Soviet Launch Sputnik
On this day the Soviet Union unsuccesfully launched Sputnik 1. This had been the worlds first satelite only the size of an average beach ball. The beach ball sized satelite had only weighed about 139 pounds and the Soviet Union still had an unsucceful launch. This affected history by giving the U.S an advantage on technology. -
US Sends a man to the moon
John F. Kennedy had been president at the time of the decision to send the first US man to the moon. This had been the involvent of the space race. The Soviet Union against the United States had been a race to take control of major satelites and be the first to land on the moon. Although the Soviet Union had beet us to making it into space the US had been the first to step foot on the moon. -
Nixon Visits China
Initial start of the open trade policy with china. As you can tell most of our products, more so cloths, are made in china. This is the cheapest way to increase amount of products in our country because the trade is free. He was also the first president to visit the People's Republic of China. -
USSR Invades Afghanistan
On December 24, 1979, the Soviet Union invades Afghanistan, the Soviet-Afghan Friendship Treaty of 1978. The Soviet Union made a massive arlift behind enemy lines. Each aircraft had atleast 8,000 men in each of them. Obviously big aircrafts and alot of firepower against the enemy. This resulted in 15 thousand soviet soliders being killed. -
US Invades Grenada
President Ronald Reagan had presented the threat to our nation to prevent war on allies. Over 1,000 american soliders had been shiped there to fight. This ended the socialist experiment over 20 years ago.
