    The United Nations was formed after WWII. This was formed to maintain international peace and cooperation. It was also to promote human rights across the world.
  • Truman Doctarine

    The Truman Doctrine was a policy aimed at controlling the spread of communism. It was put into place to help countries that were being threatened or getting communism pushed upon them.
  • Hollywood 10

    Hollywood 10 were film producers and directors who were suspected to be part of the communist party. They would refuse to answer any questions about the situation.
  • Marshal Plan

    The Marshall Plan was a U.S. idea to stop the spread of communism. It was set to help western European countries.
  • NATO

    NATO was formed to help stop the Soviets. It was to stop them from spreading their beliefs and also from trying to expand their land.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was a battle between North and South Korea. China and the Soviets supported the north while the United Nations supported the South.
  • Space Race

    The Space Race started on August 2, 1955, and ended on July 17, 1975. This was a race between the 2 super powers of the world during this time to see who could conquer space first and make it to the moon.
  • Bay Of Pigs

    The Bay Of Pigs was a failed invasion from the CIA of Cuban exiles. This was embarrassing for the U.S. and made Cuba and the Soviets closer than before.
  • Berlin wall going up

    The Berlin Wall went up because they wanted to stop people from escaping the East to the West of Berlin. It was more than 30 miles long and had barbed wire across the whole way.
  • U.S. joining the Vietnam war

    The U.S. joined the Vietnam War mainly to stop the spread of communism throughout Southeast Asia. This was to stop the "Domino theory".
  • Soviets invading Afghanistan

    They invaded because they wanted to keep the spread of communism. This was because religious groups and people were starting to spread ideas and the Soviets did not like that.
  • Berlin Wall falling

    The Berlin Wall fell because of lots of political reform and German people wanting more freedom. Hungary then opened its border, providing more ways to escape for the Germans wanting more freedom.
