    The Berlin Airlift, which lasted a little over 11 months, was an American assist to the people of West Berlin who had been shut off to all resources as a result of the Soviet's war tactic of the blockade. The US proceeded to deliver goods that Berlin needed to the city of Besieged via air transport. This sustained Berlin until the blockade was called off.

    During the Cold War, the Soviet Union planned to tear down the Germans by cutting off all their railroads, roads, and canal access in an attempt to essentially destroy their city of Berlin. This left Berlin wit no supplies and basically helpless until the US came in to assist Berlin in providing their needed supplies and goods until the Soviets backed off.

    The first test run by the Soviet Union of the atomic bomb occurred in 1949. They tested the nuclear weapon in hopes to use this for a future war superpower to catch up with the US. They set up buildings, bridges and other structures to observe the affects that the bomb would have on everyday civilian structures.

The wall serves as a symbol of endurance during the Cold War.
