  • Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    The Western Powers and the Soviet Union were involved in this. The Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies railway, canal and road access to the sectors of Berlin under west control. June 24, 1948 - May 12, 1949 was when it happened. The Soviets would drop the blockade if Western Allies withdrew the Deutsche mark from West Berlin.

    Sputnik
    The Soviet Union launched it into a low elliptical Earth orbit on October 4, 1957. It was a 23 inch diameter polished metal sphere, with four outer radio antennae to broadcast radio pulses. The launch ushered in new political, technology, military and scientific developments.
  • U2 Spyplane Incident

    U2 Spyplane Incident
    In 1960 a U2 incident secret intelligence facility in Pakistan, was the U2 Spyplane to fly from there. It flew at altitudes that couldn't be reached by Soviets. It was hit by an S-75 Dvina (SA-2 Guideline) surface-to-air missile and crashed in Sverdlovsk Powers parachuted safely and were captured.

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was in 1961. The CIA sent cuban exiles to go get rid of Castro the Cuban Dictator at first but they failed and all died trying. This was very important to The Cold War and making it very important.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    Berlin Wall was a barrier that split Berlin from 1961 to 1989. The German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) started building this on August 13, 1961. The Wall fully cut off West Berlin from East Germany and from East Berlin, until government officials opened it in November 1989. Its demolition officially started on June 13, 1990 and was completed in 1992.

    The Iron Curtain was the physical boundary splitting Europe into two separate areas from the end of WW 2 in 1945 until the end of the war in 1991. It was used by the Soviet Union to isolate itself form surrounding Eastern and Central European nations after WW 2.

    The Korean War was a huge fight between the North and South Koreans and the United Nations. North Korea tried to take over South Korea for full domination, but they fought them for it. All of this Happened in the Korean Peninsula and was very important in Korea's history.
