    Act of building accusations of crime against an individual or group with no appropriate evidence. Tons of Americans were "accused" of being Communism. Senator Joseph McCarthy stated that he knew 205 people in the Department of State who were part of the Communist party.

    • Between North and South Korea
    • North assisted by Communist China and Soviet Union
    • South being helped by UN forces of the United States
    • War started when North Korea invaded South
    • United Nations issued a complaint dispatched soldiers.
    • Armistice was signed on July 27th, 1953, and a demilitarized zone was created between the two countries.
    • Countries still technically at war.
  • Rosenberg Case

    Rosenberg Case
    Takes place in New York. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were blamed of selling key information regarding nuclear weapons to Soviet Union. Sentenced to death due to David Greenglass's (a member of the American Communist Party and brother-in-law) confession of Julius asking him for instruction to build an atomic weapon. Death sentence would be nullified if they confessed. Couple disagreed and were executed.

    •Arbenz witnessed and opposed U.S backing dictator Jorge Ubico
    •Lead many civilian revolt groups against Federico Ponce Vaides
    •Ran for President in 1944, b8ut lost fairly to Juan Jose Arevalo
    •Appointed Minister of Defense (1945-51)
    •Won Presidency in 1951
    • His reforms were resisted by the U.S and he was ousted in a coup d’etat on June 27th, 1954
    •Coup d’etat led by the Foster Dulles brothers
  • John Foster Dulles becomes Secretary of State

    John Foster Dulles becomes Secretary of State
    Became 52nd US Secretary of State, Against the idea of communism. Made plans to overthrow the prime minister of Iran. Crucial in American foreign policy. Negotiated the Japanese Peace treaty. Very thought out in negotiations, wanted to make negotaitions with Soviets.

    • First successful U.S overthrow of a foreign country
    • Iran wanted to expel western companies from Iranian oil
    • Mohammad-Rezā Shāh Pahlavi put in power
    • CIA and British forces planned and carried out coup
    • Pahlavi ruled for 26 years until overthrown in Iranian Revolution
    • Contributed to Middle Eastern hostilities towards the U.S and Britain
  • Hungrarian Communist Revolution

    Hungrarian Communist Revolution
    First major threat to Soviet authority since when the USSR army got rid of Nazis from their land nearing the end of World War II. Started off as student testimony in Budapest. Government collapse, citizens wanted political changes. Wanted changes such as freedom, the elimination of the secret police and Russian control, and more food. These were a part of the "Sixteen Points". Russian tanks went into Budapest killing around 30,000 people. Everything was settled down on November 14th.

  • Fidel Castro sworn in as President of Cuba

    Fidel Castro sworn in as President of Cuba
    •Took control from right-wing dictator Fulgencio Batista
    •Castro was raised on anti-American beliefs
    •Organized July 26th revolutionary movement
    •Managed to gain support from innumerable Cuban rebels
    •United States were helping Batista
    •U.S initially supported Castro, but withdrew when he made economic reforms and nationalized U.S assets in Cuba
