    On June 19,1902 Teddy Roosevelt was determined to build a canal through panama. at this time panam was was still a provinice with colombia.This canal woul help us in many ways for example our U.S. Navy would be getting an easier way to protect our nations abd shipping across the wrold would increase. In 1902 Roosevlt offerered to pay $10 million in cash $250,000 a year in rent. However Columbia held out for more money and with Roosevelt being eager to get started he paid what they wanted.

    After panama was recognized by its independence a frenchman had sighned a treaty with the U.S. This treaty had granted the U.S. a 10 mile wide area across the Isthmus of Panama. In return of this grant the U.S. had agreed to to pay $10 million+$250,000 in rent a year.

    there were uprising problems in the process of building the canal, but there was one to be unsolved for awhile. The problem was a diseast. Many people believed that this disease was caused by damp areas, but carlos had proved that theory wrong, He had stated that Yellow Fver was not caused by damp areas but was transmitted by a type of masquito. In lead to that Ronald Ross had determined the masquito and had figured out a solution. The solution was to clear the brush and drain the ponds/swamps.
