Thurmond
The starting important plot event is first when six year old Ruby and the others are brought to Camp Thurmond, and pretends to be a green, instead of an orange. This initiates the true start of the book after all the explanations on why this camp exists and the motives behind it all. This core event to the book starts on page 9. -
Escape
The first rising action is when Ruby and the other orange boy escape camp Thurmond, with the help of ‘Doctor Cate’. She talks with the group of joining a cause, which is supposedly to help the kids get back their rights. This starts happening on page 38. -
Run Away!
The second rising action is when Ruby runs away from Cate and the boy, when realizing their cause is not a noble one. She runs into a group of rag-tag kids, looking for an alleged slip kid. This is on page 99. -
Found Out
The group discovers Ruby’s secret that she is secretly an orange, though she lied and falsely claimed to be an orange. Yet still the group decides that she is still worth having around. This starts on page 286. -
Slip Kid
The group finally finds the slip kid, who is also an orange. He also agrees to train Ruby. The biggest thing was actually that he was the president’s son. In their time there, Zu also leaves the camp with a small group to try and go back to her home. This event takes place on page 325. -
Run, run, run
The falling actions are when the group escapes the wrath of the reds and the president’s son. the group later goes back on the road, to try and go home, and play some debts they owe to old friends. This happened on page 462. -
A letter at a gun fight
Chubs is shot when trying to repay a debt. This event leads to Ruby contacting Cate to help them get him to a hospital, though all Chubs wanted was to go home before he died, they thought he wouldn’t make it home before that. This event is on page 465. -
Kidnapped
After Cate gets Chubs to the hospital she takes Ruby and Liam with her and strikes up a deal with Ruby after kidnapping her and Liam. The deal is horrid and unreasonable. The deal is Liam’s freedom, for her faithfulness to their cause, and to fight with them. This is on page 471. -
To save you...
The conclusion to the book is when Ruby decides to trade her freedom for that of Liam's, and wipes his memory of all involving her. Ruby decides to give him a fresh start at a new life. She will stay and work with Cate, and become another person, cold and hard. That is unless she is alone, that’s when she thinks of Liam.This took place on page 485.
