    Character Development (Negative): Since Anne was talkative and extroverted, she was sad that she was going to be alone.
    Theme: Anne was disappointed that she did not have someone to share everything with or relate to. She was misunderstood as an annoying, immature girl, when she was just trying to talk to someone.

    Summary: Anne has to share a room with Mr. Dussel, the old, boring man. Again, she is let down by this because she cannot talk or relate to him either.
    Character Development (Negative): Because of their age gap, the tension cause them to fight a lot. He treats her like a little girl and doesn't listen to her, which angers Anne.
    Theme: Anne feels misunderstood because she feels like no one understands or listens to her. Everyone just ignores her because they see her as an immature kid.

    Theme: Anne struggles with her identity because she doesn't know who she wants to be yet.

    Theme: Before Anne confides in Peter, she needs to take time to know herself (her identity) first.
