Their reason for this was because the Anglican book was being forced upon them. So they invaded England causing Charles to turn to Parliament. -

Battle of Edge Hill
Neither the King's army nor Parliaments army won this battle.It showed that Parliament was not strong enough to beat the King and King Charles was not strong enough to take London. -
Charles I refuses negotiation
Charles had many victories during this time of war and was feeling very confident. Parliament had sent out request to compromise with his in order to negotiate peace in the midst of political chaos. -

After the King refuses to make peace with Parliament. The Scots and Parliamentarians form an alliance. -

Oliver Cromwell lead a charge into Cavaliers earning earning a victory for the roundheads and control over two major cities. -
Battle of Naseby
A battle between Royalist and Parliamentarians. Royalists were lead by Prince Rupert and King Charles while the Parliamentarians were lead by Oliver Cromwell. During battle some Royalists started chasing Parliamentarian army men off the Battlefield, leaving the main field with rest of royalist infantry vulnerable. This led to the Parliamentarians taking victory. -
Charles I surrenders
He surrenders to the Scots but they later give the kind position to Parliament. However this leads to conflict in Parliament because it was lead by radicals who had fought in the army pushing for more reform. -
Scots invade England
Charles was denounced by Oliver Cromwell. Charles I joins the Scots and the invade England however they are defeated by the Parliament army led by Oliver. Charles I is then captured. -
Charles I executed
He was first placed on trial for treason and sentenced to death by public authority. This shows a small increase in power in non-nobles. -
Oliver Cromwell (1653-1658)
Oliver Cromwell comes into power, he was known as the protectorate over the commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland. -
Richard Cromwell (1658-1659)
Son of Oliver Cromwell. He was not the best monarch and Parliament sought to replace him quickly. -
Charles II
Parliament army removes Richard Cromwell and the monarchy is restored when Charles II is returned to England. He was Catholic but he didn't have any tension with Parliament because he bribed members to agree with him behind the scenes instead of openly diagreeing. He was also considered the Merry monarch because in his England because he allowed fun, revelry, and culture developments. Whereas before, England was in a military state where all people did was eat, sleep, and pray. -
James II (1685-1688)
James II succeeded Charles II. He openly went against Parliament and tried to give more civil rights to Roman Catholics, this caused a rebellion.James did not fight the rebellion and left his throne. -
William of Orange and Mary II
Parliament invited William to invade England so that he would be King. So there was no Blood shed. He married Mary II daughter of King James II. Their reign is what started the Glorious revolution -
The Glorious Revolution
William of Orange and Mary II come into power and they pass the English Bill of Rights, establish religious toleration and Parliaments authority., and also solves the problems of the English War thereby putting and end to it. The Glorious Revolution is significant because it allowed for more ideas about government to arise in some enlightenment thinkers; which eventually shape future governments. -
English Bill of Rights
Passed by King William and Queen Mary.It outlined specific civil rights for individuals and made Parliament more sovereign over the monarchy.
