    Athenian’s started the first democratic society where all male citizens born to an Athenian father who were past the age of 18 had equal rights to vote and had the freedom of speech. Unfortunately women and slaves did not have the privilege of voting at this time.

    The Nobles in England wanted to create a more democratic system in England that would limit the power that the royal family had by giving some of that power to the people. They accomplished this task by forcing King John to sign the “Great Charter” which created the English Parliament.
  • Jamestown Colony

    First successful English colony in the New World. The Colony was made of 7 advisers and 1 president .At that time they had problems with Indians .They did not have a good relationship and therefore were not able to cooperate on food and drink which led to deaths of a large number of people.

    Everything started at 1685 when the people from political circles were troubled by king’s Catholicism.At 1688 the king’s regim was destroyed.Because of this event William Of Orange came to Englad.For that time king went to London.Revolution ended any chance of Catholicism becoming re-estabilished in England.

    In the Second Continental Congress was delegates from 13 colonies.

    During this time period Napoleon Bonaparte rose to power as he led the French citizens to victory as together they put an end to the Monarchy and the feudal system in France.Their victory was attained after the execution of King Louis XVI. This revolution helped to introduce democracy in France and other neighboring countries.

    American Constitution came into force in 1789.The Constitution exists to serve its citizens.The Founding Fathers of America wanted to make a new democratic society,which would comply with rule ‘one man one vote’ .But it was an early statement.After that the vote was added to all adults.
  • The Great Reform Act

    Lord Charles Grey, Britain’s former prime minister was the main person behind this act .The reform act changed the British electorate system, allowing around 18% males to vote. Women and children weren’t allowed to vote. They also wanted more representatives for the house of commons because deserted places like the ‘rotten boroughs’ had representatives but a population close to nothing. Other major cities that were fast-growing like, Birmingham and Manchester did have any representatives.

    Black men gained the right to vote in 1870 in the U.S, but the voting process was still very difficult for black males because they were often told they got the date time or polling place wrong on election days or were given a literacy test that was designed to fail the test taker. It wasn’t until 1965 that black males were given a fair chance to vote in the U.S after Lyndon B. Johnson and Martin Luther King Jr. signed the voting rights Act.

    By 1893 women in New Zealand gained the right to vote and by the late 1900’s most countries around the world granted voting rights to women, these countries include Australia, Canada, United States of America, India, China, and South Africa. Women started with limited voting rights which changed over time.
  • Women’s Person Case

    Women were not considered people in the 1928. By law, there were famous five, women activists who went to court to change the law. They went to the Supreme Court of Canada and had gotten denied. The women went to the British Privy Council who then reversed the court's compromise. This change allowed women to work in the House of Commons. Women were finally equal to man.

  • United Nations and Human Rights

    After the treacherous events in WWll and Nazism, Mrs. Roosevelt started to create this charter with the help of any other countries. This charter was for humans to be free of discrimination, inequality and other reasons that separate humans. The charter was brought to the General United Nations assembly with representatives from more than 50 countries and only a very few number voted against like, the Soviet Union.

    The Bill of Rights was created in Canada to continue to live without discrimination because of race, background, colour, gender or religion. It also gave freedom and rights for Canadians to live in freedom and freedom of religion and speech. All laws were to follow the Bill.

    The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom was created to replace the 1960 Bill of Rights. They both have the same rights and freedoms, The charter includes protection for minorities against the parliamentary majorities and only applies to Canadian citizens. Protection for the minorities helped with their expansion and with changing view of criminal examinations.
  • Fall of The Berlin Wall

    Fall of The Berlin Wall

    The idea to create the wall came from eastern Germans .The wall divided the West Berlin from East Germany and from East Berlin. The wall was build with the goal to stop the outflow of workers and economic balance.The destruction of the wall was the first step towards unification of Germany.
