The Horse in Motion
In order to view the series of photographs capturing motion. Eadweard Muybridge created the zoopraxiscope, a device that is now seen as an early form of a film projector. The moving images produced by this invention are now hailed as the earliest known example of a motion picture. Muybridge took about 6 years to create this film. -
First ever film
Louis Le Prince, a French inventor, is believed to have created the Roundhay Garden Scene. Roundhay Garden Scene is considered the first film ever made or at least the oldest surviving one. The film in total is only about 2 seconds long. -
First motion picture camera
Edison's Kinetoscope was the first camera invention. The Kinetoscope invention was a machine where the viewer would look through the top to watch a film. This machine was only a one person viewing machine. Followed by the Kinetograph camera, which he used to take motion pictures of people or objects. -
The Cinematographe
The Lumiere brothers created a different version of Thomas Edison's invention. The Lumiere brothers invented the Cinematographe, which was a multiple person viewer instead of one. Also, the Cinematographe was lighter and less bulky than the Kinetoscope. -
Silent Film Era
The first commercial movie screening happened on December 28, 1895, at the Grande Cafe in Paris. Brothers Louis and Auguste Lumiere developed a film using their invention, the Cinematographe. Which kicked off the start of silent films. The Cinematographe showed scenes of everyday French life, in which they charged admission to see their series of shorts. This was the era where they showed motion pictures. -
The First Horror Movie
The first horror movie was created during the silent era time. The first depictions of the supernatural on screen appeared in several of the short silent films. These were created by the French pioneer filmmaker Georges Méliès in the late 1890s. The movie was called " House of the Devil". This film was only 3 minutes long, what we call a short film today instead of a movie. -
The First Narritave Film
The Great Train Robbery, a milestone in cinematic history. This movie was a groundbreaking silent film that marked the emergence of narrative storytelling in the medium. However, under the direction of Edwin Porter ( a former cameraman for Thomas Edison), The Great Train Robbery introduced innovative techniques and visual storytelling devices. These devices would revolutionize filmmaking by placing a greater emphasis on conveying a coherent and engaging narrative to audiences. -
First Animated Film
This was a hand drawn animation by Emile Cohl called Fantasmagorie. It was a French animated film, Cohl had around 700 drawings that he displayed for the film. The film in total was only 2 minutes long. -
The First Film in Color
The first known film to successfully use the Kinemacolor process was "A Visit to the Seaside ". The Kinemacolor process was revolutionary. It utilized red and green filters on alternating frames to simulate the colors of the film. Take a look at the footage of the film and note the use of green and red in the Kinemacolor process that create various shades. This film in total was around 8-10 minutes long. -
First 3D film
The Power of Love is the first 3D feature film, released in Los Angeles at the Ambassador Hotel Theater. The film was shown using red/green glasses and was also the first 3D film to use anaglyph glasses. Also, the first to use dual strip projection. Till this day we still use 3D glasses like the ones used in the first 3D film just modern day ones. -
Warner Bros
During World War I their first national film, "My Four Years in Germany". This was based on a popular book by former ambassador James W. Gerard. Released on April 4, 1923, evolved in Hollywood with help from money loaned to Harry by his banker Motley Flint. They were formally incorporated as Warner Bros. Pictures, Incorporated. This was just the start of something big that we still use over 100 years later. -
Walt Disney
Shortly after the Warner Bros kicked off with their motion picture films, the Walt Disney Company came to existence. Making their first film "Steamboat Willie", which was one of the first animated films with sound. This started something that will probably be in the world forever. Disney is one of the most popular categories in movies. -
3- Strip Color Process
The Wizard of Oz was created using Technicolor's 3-strip color process. This process involved recording the same scene through colored filters. Which were on three separate strips of film rather than using a specific type of color film. -
First Computer Animated Feature Film
Toy story was the first fully rendered animated film done in CGI and the first time anyone had heard of Pixar. This kind of technology would be used more than not in future film after this movie was released. -
First Full Performance Capture Film
The technology used in Avatar was so advanced that it had to be specially created for the movie. The result was a visually stunning and engaging experience that had never been seen before in cinema. This movie was in the making for 15 years before it was released.
