  • Phenakistiscope

    Phenakistiscope
    The phenakistiscope was a cardboard disk with slots around the edge and drawings between the slots, and spun it in a mirror to see the image. It was invented by the Belgian physicist Joseph Plateau.

    The was based off the same princapales on the phenakistiscope, but the zoetrope allowed many people to look at it's images at the same time. It was made by mathematician William George Horner. It had slits around it to allow the viewer to see the images inside it while it was turning.

    In 1888 George Eastman brought to the world the first celluloid film. He showed us the first hand-held box camera, otherwise known as the "Kodak". It was so popular because being that it was so cheap everyone was able to buy it to capture wonderful times and memories.
  • Kinetoscope

    Kinetoscope
    Also called a peepshow viewer it was a forerunner of the projector. A cutstomer would drop a penny in there and crank it to view the image. Thte film was 20 seconds which was ran in a continuous loop.

    In 1893 Edison built the first motion picture studio near his lab in New Jersey called the "black Maria". The first film from the studio was called Fred Ott's sneeze.

    In 1894 the first kinetiscope parlor opened in Ney York. Fpr a couple years it was profitable, until people figured out how to project it on a screen.

Dickison starring Fred Ott. It was about Fred Ott sneezing infront of the camera. It was the 1st copyrighted film in the USA.

    Agust and Louis were credited for having the first film formore than 20 minutes, during there first film screening. It was held in the basement lounge of the grande cafe in paris. Everything they recorded was at 16 FPS. The first film made was "Workers leaving the factory."
  • Zoopraxiscope

    Zoopraxiscope
    The zoopraxiscope was invented by Eadweard Muybridge in 1897. It was a machine for proojecting slides onto a distant surface the very first projector. Silhouette images, from his sequence photographs, were painted around the edge of a large glass disc.

    This Film was made by Magician, Georges Melies. He owns a theatre where he shows his magic tricks, but decided to add films to his program. He used stop-motion and other special effects. The tricks had to be done while filming. The film was a science fiction about scientist traveling to he moon in a space capsule and ecasping after being help prisoner by the moon's creatures.
  • Great Train Robbery

    The film, "The Great Train Robbery" is made by Edwin S. Porter with parrrelel editing. The film was made by two seperate lines of action happening continuosly at the same time at different locations. In this film the first stunt was done by throwing a dummy off of a moving train. The film was about 11 minutes with 14 different scenes.
