The Impact of Values and Norms

  • Values and norms

value- what's important in an individual or social group.
norms-social rules that define what'ts correct behavior in society.
  • beliefs

In the book it states "advertising can influence a teen's behavior in multiple ways, including how the child acts as well as her spending habits".(health4.3) Teens are focused on what people around them are doing that they start to believe it's okay for them to do as well. This here can lead to bad decisions, though it may not seem bad to them because they see other people doing it. It's basicailly socially correct for them to act like that.
  • example

In the book it states "As children grow into the teen years, they become more aware of legal issues and society's laws"(health4.3) My friend was going to make a really bad decison which would hurt their health. My other friend and I tried to convince a friend that there are consequence to those actions. In the book it states "treat others as you would have them treat you" (health 4.3) I know if i was going through this type of situation I would want my friends help me and being there for me.
