  • Amir is born

    Amir had been born in the year 1963, although most of his life, he had lived without a mother. Due to how his,"[M]other hemorrhaged to death during childbirth..." (6). In which Amir tends to blame himself for his mother's death, which is carried by him for a long time.
  • Hassan's birthday present

    Hassan had a cleft lip, in which had bothered him a little but didn't much mind. Although a cleft lip is a diformity and can be fixed with surgery, thus Baba had given Hassan surgery for his cleft lip, with the doctor saying how his,"[J]ob is to fix things on people's bodies. Sometimes their faces." (45). This events marks when Amir starts to become jealous of Hassan, due to how Baba had shown his affections more to Hassan...
  • Kite Running in winter

    Winter had been everyone's favorite season in Kabul. No school, free time to fly kites, and that's what Hassan and Amir did. Although while kite flying, Hassan ends up alone with Assef, a classic narcissist. Soon after being alone for a while, Assef then rape Hassan, although Amir had been watching but was too scared to go and help him. When Amir had,"[C]aught a glimpse of his face. (Amir) had saw the resignation in it. It was a look I had seen before. It was the look of a lamb." (76).
  • Amir's 13th birthday

    Soon, it was Amir's 13th birthday. In which was a happy time for him, aside from how both Hassan and Assef were in the same building. While the party was taking place, Hassan had been serving the guests. Till Amir,"[S]aw something (he'll) never forget: Hassan serving drinks to Assef and Wali from a silver platter... Assef grinning and kneading Hassan in the chest with a kuckle." (100). This event comes to show how even though Hassan went through getting raped, he still served Assef.
  • Baba and Amir leave to Pakistan

    Due to the Soviet Invasion happening, Amir and Baba leave to Pakistan to then leave to the U.S. In which this is a big move for both Baba and Amir because they are leaving behind everything, a home, status and Amir leaving Hassan. This is when Amir realized how,"[T]hat the life that I had known since I'd been born was over." (108). This quotation shows how Amir was too late in telling Hassan about the truth, and so this marks when he truly holds on to his guilt for a long time.
  • Amir and Sohrab move to U.S

    After going to Pakistan just to come to California, they are finally there. After all their traveling and hardships, their new life starts now. Although Baba had a hard time adapting to his new life, as the,"[B]ay Area's smog stung his eyes, the traffic noise gave him headaches, and the pollen made him cough." (126). This event marks their new life and their new future, although coming from Kabul all the way to San Francisco is something Baba wasn't fully prepared for.
  • Amir graduates

    When Amir and Baba came to California, Amir went to high school. Better education, better aesthetics, better everything, almost as a new life. Then during that, in the,"[S]ummer of 1983, I graduated high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day..." (131).
  • Amir meets Soraya

    While in California, Baba and Amir go to market in which they find Baba's old friend, General Taheri. The general and Baba talk for a bit, till Amir meets his daughter, Soraya. A,"[S]lim-hipped beauty with velvety coal black hair...". (140).
  • Amir and Soraya marry

    Further into the future, Amir and Soraya fall in love, thus marrying. Their love had been shown through the wedding, and after it, Amir had remembered,"[S]itting on the sofa, set on the stage like a throne, Soraya's hand on mine, as three hundred or so faces looked on.". (171). This event marks a happy portion of his life, until later, but still happy for now. As he finally has found someone he loves...
  • Baba dies

    On Baba's final night, the day had started off well and energetic, as family had came over for dinner. They all had fun till it was time to go, and then Baba stated how,"There is no pain tonight... We closed the door... Baba never woke up." (173). This quotation shows how when Baba knew he would die, he just rather not say anything and let it happen.
  • Hassan and Farzana get killed

    While the Taliban came in to investigate Hassan's home, he had protested one too many times. Thus, the Taliban had,"[S]hot him in the back of the head... (Then) Farzana came screaming and attacked them... Shot her too." (219).
  • Amir gets a call from Rahim Khan

    While still adapting to all the new changes in his life, Amir receives a phone call from his old friend, Rahim Khan. Although the call was odd, since he hung up by saying,"[C]ome. There is a way to be good again." (192). This had stuck with Amir, since he never fully atoned for his sins, so finding a way to be good again would mean finally getting rid of his long lasting guilt.
  • Sohrab attempts suicide

    Due to all the built of guilt Sohrab had put on himself, he had decided to commit suicide by slitting his wrists in the bathtub. Amir was,"[S]creaming until I thought my throat would rip and my chest would explode. Later, they said I was still screaming when the ambulance arrived." (343). Having built a relationship with Sohrab and going through a beating to save him, having him attempt to commit suicide had really taken a large toll on Amir. Miraculously, Sohrab survived.
  • Amir comes home with Sohrab

    After all of what happened back in Afghanistan, both Amir and Sohrab finally return home. Although because of Sohrab's suicide attempt, he refuses to talk... When coming to the airport, Soraya,"[T]ook his hand and smiled at him... Sohrab shifted on his feet and looked away." (358). Sohrab still isn't close to getting better, so he was a rude to Soraya despite her nice actions.
  • A slight smile from Sohrab

    During the final chapter of the book, Amir takes Sohrab to go kite flying, and while they do, Amir notices that after a long time, he see's a slight smile on Sohrab's face. He noticed how when he,"[L]ooked down at Sohrab. One corner of his mouth had curled up just so. A smile. Lopsided. Hardly there. But there." (370-371). Sohrab's smile could've helped give the feeling that Amir finally atoned for his sin's, as Sohrab looks similar to Hassan.
