The Kite Fighting tournament

Amir sees this as a chance to make Baba proud and get some love from him. As the tournament goes on, Amir and Hassan end up winning the tournament and Baba is very proud. Amir finally feels appreciated. But as Hassan went to go run the kite, Amir loses sight of him. He eventually finds Hassan with Assef and two of his friends. What happened next changed Hassan and Amir’s life forever. Amir witnesses Hassan being raped. -
Hassan and Ali leave
Ali finds out what happened to Hassan that night at the Kite Fighting Tournament. Therefore he tells Baba he is leaving. Baba is shocked and doesn’t know what to do or say. He begs for them not to leave. But Ali tells him that Hassan and him cannot live there anymore, life is impossible for them now. -
Baba and Amir are escaping from Afghanistan
The Russians have come into Afghanistan and taken it over. So, Baba and Amir must leave the country. They’re being smuggled across borders and paying off Russian soldiers that work at the checkpoints. They leave without Hassan and Ali. -
Amir and Baba are in America
They live in Fremont, California and are adjusting to the new lifestyle. They don’t have the live in a big house and have servants. Baba is having a hard time adjusting to this new life, he’s not known here like he is in Afghanistan. People act differently in America than in Afghanistan and Baba is having a hard time adjusting. Amir is adjusting easily; he’s taking this as a chance to bury his memories. But, for Baba it was a place to mourn his. -
Baba dies
Baba dies of cancer, leaving Amir on his own. Amir has no one to show him the way anymore. He is left to live with his wife Soraya and her family. Amir contemplates about wanting to be a father just like Baba or not. He wants to be like Baba but at the same time he doesn’t. -
Amir goes to get Sohrab
Rahim Khan tells Amir that he must go and find Hassan’s son Soharb in an orphanage somewhere in Karthseh. Amir gets to the orphanage but finds out that Sohrab is not there and has been taken by the Taliban. Amir arranges a meeting with the man that has Sohrab. Finally, Both the man and Amir meet face to face and Amir sees that he is sitting inches away from Assef. -
Assef and Amir fight for Sohrab
Assef agrees to give Sohrab back to Amir, but not without paying a price. Assef and Amir agree to fight to the death for Sohrab’s freedom. If Amir walks away alive, then he gets to walk away with Sohrab. But if Amir loses then Sohrab must watch his uncle get beaten to death. -
Sohrab ends the fight
Sohrab begins to cry and yell, begging Assef and Amir to end their dispute. To end it, he pulls out a slingshot and loads a solid ball bearing into the rubber launch strap. Instinctively, Sohrab shoots the ball bearing into Assefs eye, lodging it into his eye socket. Amir and Sohrab escape. -
Rahim Khan calls Amir
Amir receives a call from Rahim Khan, saying that he has to go to Pakistan. Rahim Khan is very sick and has something very important to tell Amir. Amir must revisit his homeland but it’s not going to be how it was when he was a young boy. Soraya is worried that Pakistan is not safe enough for Amir to go to. -
Amir and Sohrab in America

Amir and Sohrab are in America, and Sohrab has yet to speak a word because he is so traumatized. They’re at an event celebrating the Afghan new year and Amir spots someone selling kites. He buys one and shows Sohrab how he flies it. Sohrab at first stays quiet but then decides to take part in flying the kite. They lived happily ever after. (:
