Kite Flying Contest
On this day, Amir wins the Kite flying contest and earns Baba's approval with the help of Hassan. After Amir brings down the last kite, Hassan runs after it and gets confronted by Assef and his two friends, leading to him getting raped by Assef. Amir watches as this happens, and decides to pretend like he didn't witness what had just happened. -
Ali and Hassan leave
On this day, the morning after Amirs thirteenth bithday party, Amir frames Hassan for stealing money and his brand new watch in hope of Baba kicking Hassan and Ali out. However, Baba forgives Hassan as Hassan takes the blame. Although Baba forgave him and didn't kick them out, Ali decides to leave. Hassan had told him about him getting raped and Amir just watching. Amir and Baba move to U.S.
Baba and Amir move to California from Pakistan because Baba hated the Soviets. He couldnt stand them and he knew that they would soon ruin his country. Therefore, Baba moves before things get too destructive and before it is too late. Soviets -
Flea Market/Amir meets Soraya
The summer on 1984, Baba sells his Buick and buys a bus, which he then drives with Amir to a San Jose flea market to sell used goods for extra cash every Sunday. One day, Baba introduces Amir to General Taheri, who was a decorated general in Kabul. The General points out his daugher Soraya, and since that day, Amir was hooked on the beautiful girl. -
Baba dies
One day, in 1986, Amir goes out to buy Baba's morphine pill to ease his cancer-caused pain. Later that night, Amir and Soraya help Baba into bed. Soraya then offers to bring Baba the morphine pills Amir had bought, but Baba says that there is no pain. The next morning, Baba didn't wake up. -
Rahim Khan reunites with Amir
After getting a call from Rahim Khan, Amir flies to Peshawar and sits down with Rahim to speak to him. Rahim tells Amir about Hassan and hands Amir a letter from him. Amir learns about Sohrab, Hassan's son and Rahim asks Amir to get him from Kabul, and Amir agrees. Amir also finds out about Hassan getting shot by the Taliban. Rahim also later on tells Amir that Baba was Hassan's actual father, -
Amir finds Sohrab
Amir finds Sohrab in 2001, and meets Assef once more. Assef agrees to give Sohrab to him if Amir fights him and survives. However, as Assef is getting ready to nearly kill Amir, Sohrab slingshots a ball into Assef's eye and they both escape. -
Sohrab attempts suicide
After Amir attempts to bring Sohrab back to California and fails, he explains to Sohrab that they might have toplace him in a temporary orphanage. Sohrab was extremely upset at the thought of going back to an orphanage, and cut himself while in the bath. Amir runs in the bathroom to tell Sohrab that Soraya has come up with a plan to bring him back to the states, and finds him in the blood-filled bathtub. After taking him to the hospital, Sohrab survives. -
Amir defends Sohrab
IThe General and Khala Jamila come over to Amir's house for dinner. After a while of the General looking at Sohrab on the couch many times, he finally asks what he was doing in their home. As he asks, he refers to Sohrab as "a Hazara boy", and upsets Amir. Amir then tells the General that he can tell everyone that Sohrab is his nephew and that he shall never refer to him as "Hazara boy" ever again, that he has a name. He finally defends someone ater years of being a coward. -
Amir flies a kite with Sohrab
On Afghan New Years day, Amir, Soraya, and Sohrab go to a gathering of Afghans to a park in Fremont. At the park, Soraya point out dozens of kites in the sky. This encourages Amir to buy a kite and he approaches Sohrab. He talks to Sohrab about Hassan and how he was the best kite runner in the world, Sohrab then agrees to fly the kite with Amir, and they bring down a kite. Amir runs the kite and says "For you, a thousand times over".
