    Samuel Gompers
    Samuel was an English born American cigar maker. He was a leader of the union, he founded the AFL. He promoted "thorough" organization and collective bargaining to secure shorter hours and higher wages, the first essential steps, he believed, to emancipating labor. Samuel took political action to "elect their friends" and "defeat their enemies". During World War I, Gompers and the AFL were open and supported the war effort.

In 1906, Goldman founded the anarchist journal Mother Earth.She was idolized as a free-thinker but not a feminist.

He died in 1924, and John Mcbride was elected the president 4 decades later. The AFL joined with thier rival, Congress of Industrial Organizations in 1955.

Though, the act seems to go for an anticompetitive practice by stoping similar types of beheavior. It wasn't favored in the greatest interest of a competitive market. The Act explained an 8-hr workday, additional pay for overtime and for the interstate railroad employers. This Act had been the 1st federal law that recylced the hrs of workers in companies. The Act was passed by Congress to evade a nationwide strike, since the railroads refuse to obey by the law.

Right after that, the Gompers had recovered from the flu than he became striked by bronchitis that laid him low again. Gompers suffered from diabetes, he could no longer walk without assistance, and was hospitalized again, he then suffered from congestive heart failure and uremia.

    The Act was a federal law that established requirements to pay the local prevailing wages on public works projects. The Act goes with “contractors and subcontractors creating federally funded or assigned contracts of $2,000 for the construction, alteration, or repair of public buildings or public works”. Davis -Bacon Act is named after; James J. Davis, a Senator from Pennsylvania and a ex-Secretary of Labor. The Act was signed by President Hoover in 1931.

Roosevelt enforced the law and signed the law on July, 5 1935.The Act exercises workers by the full freedom of association, self-organization and colletive bargaining.
