He then constucted a telescope with 30x magnification. On the 25 August 1609 Galileo presented some of his early telescopes that had 8 or 9x magnification.

On January 10 he saw that one of them had disapeared, he claimed that it had been blocked out by Jupiter. Galileo then claimed those three small stars were orbiting Jupiter. On January 13, he had discovered a fourth small star he said to be orbiting Jupiter. What Galileo had discovered was Jupiter's four largest moons. They are now called Io, Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto.

He observed that when Venus was on the near side of the Sun from Earth we could only see cresent and new phases. When Venus was on the farther side from Earth, Gibbous and full phases only were present.

Galileo made many great discoveries and without his discoveries modren science wouldn't be the way it is today. Galileo will always be remembered in books, on the internet, and in our minds.
